Looking to rebound after an
opening week loss, the
Tornado football team stormed
their way to a 20-17 win over
Pikeville College last Saturday
at Brevard High School. Two
long touchdown plays during
the third quarter made the
difference and the defense was
able to hold on to squeak out
the win against the Bears.
An 8 yard touchdown run by
senior John Taylor gave the
Tornados (2-1) an early 7
nothing lead. After stopping
the Bears (0-1) on the next
drive, a shovel pass by junior
quarterback Kye Hamilton was
picked off and mmbled back 81
yards for a touchdown, and
after the extra point the score
was deadlocked at 7 all. An 84
yard drive taking five minutes
in the second quarter led to a
Bears field goal and they held
the lead at the half 10-7.
The second half started with
a three and out for the
Tornados but on the following
possession junior linebacker
Brandon Rawls recovered a
fumble. Six plays later
Hamilton, completed a 36 yard
touchdown pass to junior wide
receiver Donald Hudson, and
after sophomore kicker Chase
Henry made the extra point the
score stood at 14-10. Six
minutes later Taylor finished a
off a 5 play, 78 yard drive with a
44 yard touchdown run to make
the score 20-10.
Pikeville scored another
touchdown with 3:44 remaining
to close the gap to 3 points,
but on the following drive
junior free safety Trey Wilbom
picked off Bear quarterback
Dan Wideman on the BC 22
yard line, and after taking two
knees the game ended with the
Tornados taking the win 20-17.
Hamilton went 11-20 good for
93 yards and a touchdown pass
on the evening, while Taylor
carried the ball 24 times for 100
yards and two touchdowns.
