Despite career high yardage
days by two receivers, numerous
injuries and fatigue proved to
be too much for the Brevard
Tornados, as they surrendered a
20-3 lead in the second half on a
steamy day in Murfreesboro, NC.
Chowan able to fight back and win
by a final score of 23-20.
“During the game we lost 4 or
5 [players] at least, and it’s a hard
time for us because we are not a
deep team” commented head coach
Paul Hamilton.
“I feel for the kids and the
coaches because we are so depleted
as a squad, that the kids are fighting
with everything they got but we
just ran out of gas.”
On the first possession of the
game junior quarterback Kye
Hamilton hooked up with fellow
junior Donald Hudson for a 63-
yard pass that led to the first
touchdown of the game a couple
of plays later. Hamilton later
connected for touchdown passes
of 6 and 56 yards, which led to
the 20-3 lead.
In the last 20 minutes of the
game Chowan began to chip into
the Tornado lead. Finally with
8:05 remaining, the Hawks scored
on a 26-yard passing play. Despite
having two more opportunities on
offense, the Tornados were unable
to score again.
Unfortunately time ran out for
the Tornados and the Hawks had
their first win against an NCAA
D-II opponent since they moved
up to the division in 2005.
Running back John Taylor
rushed for 33 yards on 7 carries
before leaving the game in the
third quarter with a rib injury.
Hamilton went28-of-53 with three
touchdowns and a BC record 297
yards through the air
Junior wide receiver Donald
Hudson caught 9 balls for 128
yards on the afternoon while junior
slot back Shaton Pratt caught 4
passes for 101 yards.
The Tornados have the week
off this week before returning to
action on Sept. 27 in their first
official South Atlantic Conference
game. The family weekend game
is against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears
and kicks off at 2 p.m.

These matches included a thrilling

Last Thursday, the Tornados
started off slowly dropping the
first two sets to Belmont-Abbey

However, the third set was the

In the third set the Tornados
took an early 12-4 lead and never
looked back as they won the
third set 25-15. In the fourth, the
Crusaders hung tough but still fell
to BC 25-23.
In the fifth it was a back and forth
affair. After being tied at 10-10 the
Tornados took the next 5 points to
win the match. The final score for
the match was 23-25,23-25,25-15,
25-22 and 15-10.
The offense was again led by
junior Brooke “The Beast” Seaman
who recorded 26 kills on the night.
Senior Jami Perry had 41 assists to
go with 6 kills.
Two days later the Tornados
travelled to Central, South
Carolina to take part in a tri
match at Southern Wesleyan. In
the first match of the day against
North Greenville University the
Tornados took out the Crusaders
in four sets by a score of 25-20,
24-26, 25-23 and 25-21.
In the second match of the
afternoon the hosting Warriors were
able to overcome the Tornados. In
another four set match the score
was 25-20, 17-25, 26-28 and 19-
25. Seaman continued her hot
hand by putting away 42 kills on
the day, while freshman Chelsea
Larsen slammed 29 kills over the
course of the afternoon.
On Tuesday night the Tornados
travelled over the mountains to
the west for their first ever South
Atlantic Conference match against
Carson-Newman. Starting off
fast the Tornados won the first set.
but Carson-Newman was able to
equalize and win the next two sets
to take the match 17-25, 25-17,
25-23, and 25-18.
This Saturday the Tornados are
returning to Tennessee to take
on Lincoln Memorial, before
returning home next Tuesday to
take on SAC rival Mars Hill.
