Page 2 News The Clarion September 26, 2008 On-campus voter registration drive kiclcing off by Joseph Chilton Editor in Chiief If Brevard College students do not turn out in droves to vote this November, it will not be due to lack of knowledge or opportunity regarding the registration process. A group of students headed up by senior Robin Funsten will be registering students every day in the Academic Quad from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and in Myers Dining Hall from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. All students have to do is stop by and fill out their registration forms, and the group will deliver their forms to the Transylvania County Board of Elections. “It’s going to be hard to miss us,” Funsten said. “North Carolina is going to be a very influential state and it is important that everybody votes.” Students have until Oct. 10 to register, and even if they do not meet those deadlines they still have options. Transylvania County will offer one stop early voting from Oct. 16 through Nov. 1. This is an opportunity for citizens to register and vote simultaneously and will be offered at the Old Library Building on the comer of South Broad Street and Morgan Street downtown. Students also have until Oct. 28 to request absentee ballots from their hometowns, but Funsten highly suggests registering in Transylvania County. “It is much more convenient, since students will be here during October and November. More importantly, though, voting here gives students the chance to vote for local candidates who influence the main place where they live,” Funsten said. For students looking to do research on candidates before they vote, ontheissues.com and lwv.org both provide voter guides regarding the national elections. For information on local elections, the website for the Transylvania County Democratic Party Headquarters features links to the websites of the candidates from both parties. “If you drive a car, if you have student loans, or if you are about to turn 23 and lose coverage from your parents health insurance, you are going to be affected by this election. Democracy only works if you participate,” Funsten said. BALLOT MARKJNG IMSrTFtUCTlONS: OR THE UtJITED STATES OfOLi may few CW+E) => *— —J Barack OtKama «=> John McCain Wayn-e- A.
