Page 8 THE LAST FRONTIER The Clarion \ October 31, 2008 American Heroes Have the Brevard buccaneers finally been quelled by the hand of author ity? We hope not. Here is a picture of the infamous "Pirate Village" after their meeting with campus life stemming from an on-campus shindig busted up on their premises. At The Clarion, we admire these courtmar- shalled corsairs and hope that one dosey-do with the law doesn't squash the spirits of these true mavericks. After all, what is a pirate without their bottle of rum? (Or beer, or incense, or whatever else they had in NVl). Would Blackbeard or Henry Morgan ever question their choice of a life of piracy after a run-in with the authorities? Hell No! So raise that flag proud, and the next time we walk by your village, NVl, we here at The Clarion will salute it. mn or the time9 10 PEMIS PARABi GCT 7 4 00 Is this simply the product of some punk kids re-arranging the letters on Brevard High School’s “Homecoming Parade” sign? Most defnitely. But you have to give them their props. For all their crassness and un-PC-ness, these kids had some major cojones to be able to pull this kind of a feat off during daylight. (At least we’re assuming this was during daylight, since we hope it didn't happen overnight, and then school officials allowed it to stay up throughout the next day.) Economy cont. from page 2 to compete in a global economy. This plan consists of several major tasks. The first one is a creation of new jobs, which could be done by providing jobs tax credit, lowering taxes for small business and by upgrading the infrastructure and school systems. The second important task is to make it easier on families by providing them with an immediate relief, by allowing them to remove up to $10,000 from their retirement funds with no further penalty and giving tax cuts to 95% working families. He would also make an effort to keep the property taxes down and would provide homeowners with a relief by introducing a 90 day moratorium on foreclosures. Ultimately, Obama would like to see middle class prosper and grow. Among other things, by unchaining credit, supporting the states achieve the desired needs, by supporting small businesses and exporting more American goods, he plans to stabilizing the financial system. Even though one of McCain’s main focuses is economy, his general views and plans somewhat differ from his competitor’s. He believes that reducing spending and stopping government waste would be beneficial to the overall economy. He would like to see Washington reformed and believes it is rather important for American people to start trusting their government again. However, similarly to Obama, he also believes that an immediate relief for American families is needed. Therefore, he plans on helping them out by lowering the prices of good and gas. McCain will work on implementing “HOME Plan,” which would provide vigorous and targeted help to those harmed by the housing crisis, in a timely manner He will in also focus on improving the flexibility of workplace and will open up new markets. This candidate believes that America deserves inexpensive, clean, and protected energy. He would reach that by transforming electricity (advanced usage of nuclear power), growing domestic manufacture of old and gas, and tackling approximate price of oil, while seeking to build efficiency. Both Obama and McCain have very detailed economy plans and the information provided above is just a small part of it. Having this and many other plans available, while selecting the candidate, one should pay close attention to their views and politics before voting. For those of you who have already done so, hopefully you made a right choice.
