It places its members on key committees within the college’s administration. They are also responsible for funding clubs, carrying out major projects and influencing school policy. However, recently students and staff have questioned the effectiveness of how our SGA is organized. SGA hosts weekly meetings in MG 125 every Wednesday. This semester has shown that students display an apathetic attitude towards SGA. They have held a number of meetings at the designated time with little result. They have been unable to obtain the numbers needed to meet quorum or two-thirds majority. Why is this? When Travis Wireback, Executive President of the SGA, emailed all the members of SGA to show up or their funds would be forfeited, we managed to obtain quorum easily. Do clubs use SGA purely as a money purse? Isn’t SGA supposed to speak on behalf of the students? Debate Society and Young Politicians of America has decided to bring this issue into the open with the support of the Executive Board of SGA in an open forum. The resolution wiU be “Resolution: SGA, as it is now, should be revamped.” SGA members have agreed to make opening arguments for both sides. This is your chance to make your voice count. Debate SocietyATA and SGA invite you to attend the open forum on Wednesday, November I2th at 7pm in MG 12 5. The debate wiU take one hour and then the resolution wiU be caUed to a vote. Immediately following the open forum, SGA will hold its weekly meeting in the same room. Debate Society Open Forum Resolution: as it is now« should be revamped.
