Local businesses feeling the burden of failing economy
by Nate Lyles
Staff Writer
Financially speaking, how much
more can our economy take?
Because, as it stands, not only are
we nationally spending money, that
we haven’t possessed in years, we
are borrowing other nations’ money
that we will assuredly not be able to
reimburse for years to come.
As if the national economy
isn’t bad enough, imagine the
possibility of how tragic Brevard’s
economy could become, as a
direct result of this national crisis.
As a tourism-related town that
generates significant financial digits
to produce and sustain life for the
community, what will become of
this small, isolated mountain town
if tourism ceases to exist in the
near future?
In recent weeks, Brevard’s
community as a whole has
witnessed the closing of a couple
of restaurants, normal businesses
that normally would be able to
sustain suitable operations with a
cooperating economy. However,
due to the financial deficit thatmost,
if not all of the country is going
through, KFC along with another
similar fast food restaurant has been
forced to “close shop.”
So the question is, when will we,
as a nation leam from our mistakes?
Are we going to wait until all
businesses in relation to KFC can
not function and operate financially
or are we going to initiate the
measurable steps needed to end this
financial catastrophe? The answer
is left unknown. The time is now to
fix our nation’s economy to ensure
that businesses operating in small
towns, such as Brevard, will be able
to sustain business-like operations
for years to come.
