Page 2 News — College to remove landlines from dorm rooms next semester The Clarion \ December 5, 2008 by Joseph Chilton Editor-in-Chief Brevard College students should all have one thing in common on their Christmas lists this Holiday season- a cell phone. The College aimounced on Monday that landlines will be removed from the dorm rooms next January, making owning a cell phone a must for students in order to communicate with friends and family. According to an e-mail sent to the student body from Cherie Tinsley, Assistant to the President, the decision was made after a campus-wide survey found that 82 percent of students do not use the landline phones in their rooms. “Brevard College does recognize that a few students will be affected by this removal and will be providing a landline phone on each floor of each residence hall for students to use to make local and emergency outgoing calls,” the e-mafl said. In hopes of accommodating students who do not have cellular service, Brevard College will invite wireless vendors to campus in early January to make the transition more convenient for students. The survey conducted by the school found that 96 percent of students already own cell phones, leading some students to applaud the upgrade from antiquity. "In my three years here I have yet to see anybody use their landline," said SGA president Travis Wireback. As with any change, however, not all students are welcoming. “I think it’s kind of stupid,” m said junior Megan Street. “Being able to call room-to- room for free [on the landline] saves me minutes on my ceU phone.” Kids' Night Out a hit by Radosav Babic Foreign Correspondent The first time ever - Kids Night Out, organized as a fundraising opportunity for Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) turned out to be a great success.
