March 20, 2009 | The Clarion Awesome Sauce Page 5 NEW WING IN TOWN Zaxby^s and its sensational sauce raise the bar for fast food by Joseph Chilton Editor-In-Chief As the semester winds down, a lot of students who would rather bathe in a vat of scorpions than eat in the caf are running out of declining balance dollars in Coltrane. For this demographic- approximately 73 percent of the BC student body- Zaxby’s in Brevard couldn’t have opened at a bet ter time. The Georgia-based fried chicken chain sold its first wing in Brevard on March 9 after converting the old KFC building. For those of you not familiar with Zaxby’s, it is the lovechild of Applebee’s and Chick- Fil-A- shghtly classier than your bucket of grease chicken stops, but also more expensive. Besides the folksy memorabilia on the walls and the awesometastic crushed ice in the drink machine, Zaxby’s is really set apart from the KFC that previously inhabited the building by only a short list of attributes. One- salad. There really is no reason to go to a fast food restaurant and buy a salad. It’s kind of like a sixty-year-old call girl - uimecessary, of poor quality, a waste of money, and something you purchase only if your friends drag you there against your will. If you for some reason have to go to Zaxby’s and don’t eat meat, though, you will probably find their salads to be much higher quality than the salad options at other fast food joints. Two- Cleanliness. Zaxby’s is clean and the people working there are peppy and nice. If you ever went to the old KFC, it will probably be a refreshing change to be able to get chicken without dealing with the cast of My Name Is Earl behind the counter Three- money. Zaxby’s may have a drive thru lane, but its prices are not in sync with he rest of its eat-as-you-drive cohort. Drinks are not included with combos, and it’s not wise to go in there with less than nine bucks and expect to get full. Four-Zax Sauce. This stuff is the clencher. chicken the one item on the menu that makes Zaxby’s worth it. Zax Sauce is a geneti cally mutated ranch that covers up all taste defects. No lie- you could dip a deep fried Wookie liver in Zax Sauce and it would be tasty. If you have the money, then Zax Sauce definitely makes Zaxby’s a must-eat alternative to campus dining. If you were looking for a new "it's late and I'm drunk and want something cheap to eat" option, Zaxby's isn't the answer If you don't mind spending a few bucks in order to avoid another night of chancing it at the Caf, then Zaxby's is a great option.
