Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. today at the Porter Center for the baccalaureate service in which graduates and candidates will be honored in a hooding ceremony. The Rev. Shelly Webb, chaplain for Brevard College, will deliver the sermon. Afterwards, students and their famihes, faculty and staff are invited to a campus- wide picnic in the Porter Center amphi theatre. Commencement weekend festivities continue at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. May 16, when members of the 2008-2009 class lined up on the steps of the library for a class photo. Mathew Cox will begin work June 1 as Brevard’s new vice president for admis sions and financial aid, BC president Drew Van Horn aimounced April 27. ‘T am very excited to have Mathew join Brevard College’s leadership team and bring his experience and many skills to our admissions and financial aid areas,” Van Horn said. “He is a seasoned admissions professional with more than 15 years of experience in public and private higher education. We are confident that he will provide the vision and leadership we need to increase our enrollment numbers.” At Brevard College, Cox will be respon sible for implementation and management of enrollment, recruitment and financial aid strategies. At the same time, he will work closely with faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of the College’s board of trustees to enhance Brevard College’s Mathew Cox enrollment efforts. ‘T am honored and excited about the opportunity to assume the vice president for ad missions and finan cial aid position at Brevard College,” Cox said. “Having transitioned almost four years ago from a public university to a small private Methodist affihated liberal arts college gave me great respect for the educational process to which colleges like Brevard dedicate themselves. The mission and goals of the College and the opportu nities, which 1 believe exist to meet those goals, are what attracted me.” Cox said he is looking forward to work ing with the faculty, staff and administration at Brevard College. “My visit to Brevard’s campus and the community as well as the conversations 1 had with members of the staff, faculty and administration really felt good,” he said.
