Sept. 4, 2009 | The Clarion Arts & Life Page 7 Brevard, continued from page 1 Movies: Brevard only has one movie theatre, The Co-Ed Cinema, which typically features one or two movies at a time. While this might sound like a bad situation for avid movie-goers, it actually isn’t; the Co-Ed Cinema usually exercises excellent discre tion when selecting the movies they screen, offering students an ample supply of both big budget movies as well as independent and foreign films. If you want to catch by Kenneth Stuart Horizons U-Wire Content If you're not a fan of Quentin Taran tino, you may find this film may not suit your taste, but for the fans of "Kill Bill," "Pulp Fiction," Sin City" and many other Tarantino films, "Inglourious Basterds" is a must-see. There are a few scenes in the movie that seem to have been added just for the sake of adding more humorous hnes or action. The numbered chapters throughout help mask the cut-and-paste feel of the movie, but cannot remove it entirely. The movie opens with a rather shocking scene that sets the pace for the entire movie; some slightly boorish yet witty dialogue and cruel actions. Yes, the movie was bor ing in parts, but those minuscule detours from entertainment were easily made up for with scenes that effortlessly capture your attention and might even make you up on the latest, greatest Schwarzeneg ger shoot em’ up, the Co-Ed Cinema will most likely be unable to fulfill your needs. However, Hendersonville, Fletcher, Arden and Asheville all have multiplexes that are easily within driving distance and offer multiple show times, stadium seating and all the amenities that patrons expect from larger theatres. Intoxicants: Booze. Another staple of college life nationwide is also abundantly available in Brevard. Ingles and the other area grocery squirm. While the gore in "Inglourious Basterds" is far from being as overdone as in the "Kill Bill" series, there is certainly enoughblood to provide the appearance of realism. The squeamish and those with weak stomachs beware - this movie is violent. As far as World War 11 movies are concerned, "Inglourious Basterds" has no comparison. Contrary to its counterparts, much of the film is shameless, and the flamboyant SS colonel goes far overboard in his excitement and charisma. stores have surprisingly good selections of beer and wine, but if you want to try a beer from one of the many local microbreweries, then Poppy’s Grocery is the place for you, because they offer a large selection of small batch beers produced by the Pisgah, French Broad, Highland and Green Man breweries (to name a few). If you’re looking to sip on something a little stronger than beer or wine, you’re in luck! The ABC store is conveniently located less than block from campus, next to the Sears and across from Dugan’s Pubs new location. for Tarantino fans Tarantino created a convincing work of art by taking a fantasized scenario and making the audience believe that it could possibly have happened. Although the only bit of fact in this movie might weU be that there was an attempt to assassinate Hitler, the lack of historical accuracy fails to re move the enjoyment the film provides. You're either a Tarantino-fan or you're not. "Inglourious Basterds" is definitely worth watching, but wait for the DVD release if Tarantino's previous films fafled to catch your entertainment.
