The works are courtesy of Center of the Earth Gal lery, Charlotte, NC, owned by Ruth Ly ons. Ms. Ruth Lyons artwork is on display within Spiers Gal lery: however, she was unable to be present as there was also an open reception that occurred the same night at her gallery in Charlotte, NC. Diana Arvanites has been painting “my whole life” and maintains a studio in Charlotte, NC. She received her MFAfrom the University of Massachusetts and is cur rently represented by Center of the Earth Gallery. Her inspirations come from “map ping, the sciences, and various constmction of my panels.” She loves to work modular “And Then Nothingness Turned Itself Inside Out,” acrylic, paper, wax, and reclaimed plexi on wood. in which she can have her artwork “always in flux.” She also uses re-claimed items, such as plexi-glass in her works of art. She buflds her panels from wood then formats the body of works. It takes approximately 5 months for her to complete a grouping of the inter change able art she cre ates. She beautiful ly blends drawing, paint- ing and sculpting within her works of art. A visit ing student from Brevard High School, Haima Pom- phrey, attended the reception and stated, “I think it’s one of my favorite shows I’ve seen so far!” Hanna has been assisting with Gallery openings at Brevard College for over three years. If you weren’t there opening night, not to worry, you can stiU see the artwork on display in Spiers Gallery located within the Sims Art Department buflding until October 2nd from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday!
