Page 4 The Clarion | Nov. 6, 2009 News SGA apologizes to Aramark on behalf of student body courtesy of SGA We have a lively community at Brevard, evident in some of the best turnout rates at homecoming activities the college has ever seen. So let the good times roll. Campus life, CAB, and Clubs are planning some great events for the future and there are plenty of opportunities for involvement or participation. Our community extends outside the student body. The roles of our Professors, Administrators and staff are vital in our experience. We have an equal role in their community experience and on the whole the student faculty relationship is very positive. The SGA hears concerns from both students and faculty. We work to represent student needs and encourage programs that support the student experience. We believe it is important to share with the student body an issue the SGA has resolved so as to encourage awareness and respect for the whole community of Brevard College. In response to the incident at the Halloween dance, where one of the front windows of the Cafe was broken, the SGA has appropriated funds to replace the window. The broken window does not reflect upon the nature of the whole student body and therefore the SGA feels strongly that a simple reimbursement in good faith wfll maintain our relationship with Aramark and encourage their generous support of campus events. Actions such as these cost all students and can result in higher fees as well as a reluctance to allow future use of facilities. SGA is wilhng to cover the cost in this circumstance; however, our funds our limited and should be appropriated for positive improvements not reimbursing the consequences of irresponsible actions. The issue has been resolved and our relationship is unscathed; however, we cannottake advantage of such understanding and forgiveness. Please remain respectful and aware so our community can grow and continue to have the good times. Gas prices steadily on the rise by Marc Newton Photo Editor The holidays are approaching faster than we can grasp, not only does this mean eggnog and vacation, but it also means the annual surge of gas prices all over the nation. In the summer of 2009, the average gas price was just under $2.30/ gallon and it has already jumped nearly 30 cents around the state making it the highest of the year Though this situation is not nearly as bad as last year’s “gas crisis” AAA is predicting a high of $3.00 before the prices falls again. WiU this affect hohday shopping? It doesn’t seem so but holiday travel is a different story. 75% of customers at “BP” gas station in Brevard said three dollars per gallon is when they start to worry about fuehng their car. 100% are certain they will trade their cars in for a more efficient car before 2011. “I do road construction and have to drive to Hendersonvflle every day” says an unnamed male BP customer “My truck can’t get more than 15 mpg and it costs almost 70 dollars to fill up”. Word to the wise: Use your feet or your bike and be sure to fill up your tank when ever you can regardless of how much you use it during the hohday season. photo courtesy M.
