The festival is being hosted in the Porter Center and is sponsored locally by Sycamore Cycles, Looking Glass Outfitters, The Mast General Store, Diamond Brand Outfitters, Fox Mountain Guides, The Brevard Rock Gym, Pura Vida Adventures and Green River Adventures working in conjunction with the Brevard College Outing Club and the BC Cycling Team. Jack Frost, Cont. from p. 1 Bauslaugh also mentioned the hardships this snowy season has placed on local business owners. He explained that some business owners have said that the snow has been keeping people from leaving their homes, and that this has been hurting their businesses. Local business owners have even said that the winter weather has had a greater affect on business than the state of the economy. Students have also had a difficult time with the snow, especially those who live off-campus. Senior Marc Newton has had trouble making it to campus, and even paid a neighbor to clear his driveway for him and his housemates just so that they could make a class. Professors have also had to be more understanding when it comes to attendance because so many students are unable to safely travel to campus during bad weather While senior Travis Festa claims that the snow is a Christmas miracle, other students are not necessarily so excited. Junior Scott McCormick, a transfer student this year who is originally from Australia, mentioned switching his spring break plans to visiting Alaska, so that he can “finally get away from all this winter weather” Another student, junior Greg Woods, voiced his distaste for the exorbitant amount of winter weather, saying, “We’ve seen as much snow as George Yung did in the 1970’s.” Unfortunately, this past week may not quite mark the death throes of winter just yet. According to the farmer’s almanac and local meteorologists, we’re due for several more small snows and one blizzard before this winter finally decides to give way to spring.
