March 26, 2010 | The Clarion Page 3 News SGA Update: Proposals, awards, internet discussed by Meagan Crowson Contributor/Senator This week we are placing the spothght on some of our SGA senator seniors. For this week’s article BrandonRawls answered some questions about his experience in SGA. Here is what he had to say, “...I’veenjoyed SGA. SGAhasallowed me to continue to develop my cooperation, leadership, and my time management skills. I’ve mainly worked with the Athletic projects. I would like for them [students] to know that, SGA is only effective and a true force, if the students take full advantage of it. So, if you’re looking for a way to make a change what better way than the Student Government.” In other SGA news, we had several proposals made in the open forum session for events and proj ects by The Spanish Club (founded this semester), Chmbing Club, DebateATA, and BC Old Time Dance. In addition, the upcoming elections for SGA Executive Board Officers were discussed. The deadline for submitting applications will be today at 5:00pm. Then a mandatory Open Hall Debate will be held April 7th in the Reserve Dining Room for all candidates. Also, look for the articles featuring each candidate in an upcoming issue of the Clarion. Have a great week as we enter the downhill race section of the semester! Changes in Office of Career Exploration and Development by Emily Clark Business Manager When visiting the Office of Career Exploration and Development (OCED) in the AEC, a new face will greet you. Maggie Henderson, a graduate intern with Campus Life, is now working in the OCED since the week following Spring Break. Tommasanne Davis left at the beginning of March to take a similar position closer to her home in Asheville and will be missed. Davis has been at BC for almost three years since she began in July 2007. Maggie Henderson is a Counselor Intern, since August, in the Wellness Center at Stamey. She works 12 hours per week in the OCED as part of her internship. Henderson’s OCED hours are Monday: 3 pm.-5 pm., Tuesday: 9 am.-2 pm., Wednesday: 6 pm. - 8 pm., andFriday: 9:30 am. - Noon, or by appointment. She graduated from Holhns University in Roanoke, VA in 2004 and will receive her Masters in Counseling in May from Appalachian State University. The Banff Film Festival was her first visit to this campus. Later on, when she was living in Henderson County, she started looking for an internship, preferably on a campus and is now here at BC. She enjoys the outdoors and previously has worked at the Mountain Trail Outdoor School in Henderson County and at Wilderness Ventures in Wyoming, both leading backpacking trips. “I love living in the vicinity of Asheville, Hendersonville, and Brevard”, says Henderson about living in the mountains and being able to backpack for leisure. Her main goals include meeting everyone needs, telling students to start working on their resumes and begin looking for jobs now. “Don’t feel pressured to have the perfect job as soon as you graduate. You’ll have plenty of time to figure out what you want.”, remarks Henderson. If you have any questions about jobs, internships, resumes, or cover letters, just drop by Maggie Henderson’s office or make an appointment by calling her at 884-8249 or hendermb@brevard.edu.
