In addition to Brevard College, four other schools were in attendance - Appalachian State University, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, In this issue... All told, roughly 45 people showed up to compete. The event was sponsored by Looking Glass Outfitters, Pescado’s Burritos, Bracken Mountain Bakery, Evolve Shoe Company, Healthy Harvest Food Store, Jordan Street, Celito Lindo’s, The Hub and Backcountry Outdoors. The competition began at 10 a.m. and was comprised of beginner, intermediate and advanced categories and concluded in the evening with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Brevard College students David Lackey and Joe Lovenshimer placed first and third in the beginner class. Other students in attendance were Keegan Caldwell, Travis Grey, Erika Packard, Marc Newton, Sarah Alexander, and Travis Wireback. If this you’re interested in climbing, but were unable to attend, take heart - there is another chmbing competition coming up on the 24th at Western Carolina University. The competition has six slots still open to anyone interested in competing. The Chmbing Club also hopes to host some climbing clinics this semester and next fall. The clinics will focus on climbing techniques and proper movement; for more information on the upcoming competition and other climbing related events, stay tuned to your e-mail or speak to Jonathan Hyde.
