One new excitement is the launching of a new beer, the White Squirrel Summer Lager, created by a Brevard College Alumnus, Jonathan Cort. Cort is a Beer Pusher at Craggie Brewing in Asheville. The White Squirrel SummerLager is a hght beer with an orange savor and a pale yellow color to it, made of only 4.2% alcohol. Cort wanted to give back to the community with the unique opportunity for Brevard to showcase the White Squirrel Summer Lager Other BC Alumni include John Felty, the musical director of the festival, and Nikki Talley who will be performing this year. Some say the White Squirrel Festival has been a long annual tradition in Brevard or that White Squirrels don’t exist. Actually, the first White Squirrel Festival began in 2003 to honor this unique animal. The idea behind the festival for the white squirrel started with Phil Davis, an entrepreneur who moved from Florida to Brevard in 2003. Come out and enjoy the annual Squirrel Box Derby for kids of all ages. Derby karts of all themes and designs race down Jailhouse Hill clocking 35 mph and more. Trophies are given for the fastest critter, the squirrehest them, and the nuttiest design. If you are still in Brevard or decide to visit, come to the fun two days of Memorial Day Weekend.
