Finishing last fall’s 2009 season with an overall record of 6-12-1 and a team roster of 20, coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara and as sistant coach Caity Brown introduce nine new freshman players and one sophomore player to the ever expanding Tornado women’s soccer squad. With hopes to change a losing record to a winning one, Jamie Bundy, Laura Smith, Lindsay Pritchard, Brittany Webster, Abi gail Rusch, Crissy Moran, Bree McMahon, Francie Blair, Elena Crowe and Carohna Anderson were signed to the Brevard Col lege women’s soccerteam rosterthis 2010 fall season. These 10 new additions to the roster bring not only raw and fresh new talent, but a drive that has inspired the coaching staff and the returning 16. The Lady Tornados pre-season began Aug. 15 with a tough but determining two-mile fitness test, which then proceeded with a sweat-driven 15 level beep test. The young ladies on the team not only embod ied fortitude, but portrayed hope, faith and desire to illustrate to the coaching staff how much they beheve in a winning season this season. “These young ladies are inspiring to watch,” Brown said Monday after a long but intensity-filled practice. “With a 2-0-1 record in our pre-season matches, these Tornados played with their heart, and in spired the college to believe that this is a new year, a new season, and a brand new team to show the conference what BC soc cer is truly about!” Sophomore Teresa Musick agrees. “The freshmen bring an exciting energy on and off the field,” she said. “They are feisty, out-spoken, and want to do what is best for the team. “They are truly up for the challenge.” The Tornados have been practicing hard. Playing their three pre-season games have been a tough yet rewarding few weeks for the young ladies as they prepared for the first game of the season, held yesterday at Erskine College in South Carolina.
