Sept. 17,2010 I The Clarion Sports Page 7 Women's soccer falls In hard fought away match By Chantel Azevedo Staff Writer The lady Tornados travelled to Morrow, Georgia last Saturday, to battle in their fourth match of the 2010 season against previous Peach Belt Conference champs, the Clayton State Lakers. The Brevard women were unable to match the opposing Lakers and their high scoring six goal display, which lead the BC women to their first record loss on the road this season. The game started off quick as the BC Tornados fought to keep the score at 0-0 for the first ten minutes of the first half The opening minutes of the searing, sweat driven game, the BC women were determined and focused as they strove to record their third win of their 2010 season. After the ten minute mark ticked by, senior spearheaded Cherie Sayon was able to score her first goal of the season for Clayton State, off an incoming pass from sophomore teammate Natalia Valentine at the 12:51 minute mark. Additionally, Sayon was able to place two more balls into the back of the net before the first half whistle blew. Scoring the second goal of the game with 23:15 minutes in, assisting Valentine’s goal within the 30th minute mark and scoring her third goal of the game with 32:27 minutes in, Sayon was able to lead her fellow Lakers to a 4-0 lead in the first half Before the half was over, the Brevard Tornados answered back with a goal scored by senior Nikki Peacock off a comer pass from sophomore Carolina Anderson, marking Peacock’s first goal of the season and Anderson’s first assist. The Lakers came out strong in the second half scoring another two goals; the first coming from senior Caitlin Clark with an assist from teammate Maggie Mueller The second goal was scored by Sayon at the 52:57 minute mark, setting a Clayton State record for most goals scored in one game. The Tornados answered back again, with their second goal of the game coming from freshman Elena Crowe at the 70 minute mark. “This was a tough loss for us - we played well but the Lakers were lucky enough to have one stud up top giving CSU four goals and one assist this game. We have to leam how to shut those types of players down and then we will be successful,” said Assist Coach Caity Brown.
