Dec. 3, 2010 | The Clarion News Page 3 Brevard hosts 23rd Twilight Tour By Kathleen Crady Staff Writer It’s that time of year again. Jack Frost has started nipping at everyone’s noses and holiday cheer is in the air. Brevard is about to be transformed into its own winter wonderland. The 23rd annual Twilight Tour will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4. You can ride a magical carriage ride through the streets of downtown and see all the lights and sights. There will be tons of entertainment to help you pass the time as you wait for your horse drawn carriage. Just some of these activities include karaoke and movies. The gazebo, in front of the courthouse, will have school and community choir groups serenading the passersby with selections of holiday music. The courthouse will be decked out in so many lights you would think Clark Griswold decorated it himself As you walk along the city side walks, you will pass by 1000 luminaries and classic Christmas characters wearing their lighted costumes. Even St. Nick himself will be at My Favorite Season shop. If you’ve been nice all year make sure to stop by and tell him your Christmas wish. This year the parade will be following the theme of Jingle Bell Rock. Immediately following the parade. Mayor Jimmy Harris will be reading “T’was the Night Before Christmas.” What’s Happening at BC Transylvania County Christmas Parade: Saturday, Dec. 4 starting at 3 p.m. in downtown Brevard. BC Atliletics will be featured, everyone is invited to join in the festivities Christmas Festival: Performance by Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Chorale, Symphonic Winds, and Percussion Ensemble. 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 in the Porter Center for Performing Arts. Club and Croup Meetings Campus Activities Board(CAB): Meets every Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Underground. Want to see an event on campus? Bring us your ideas. Student Government Association: Every Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Reserve Dining Room. This week is an open forum. Everyone is welcome. BC Greens: Meets Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in MG 113. Team-Mobilizing Opportunites for Volunteer Engagement (T-M.O.V.E.): Sundays, 7 p.m. AEC Conference Room. Come if you’re interested in community service and volunteerism. Send event information to ciarion@brevard.edu by Wednesday at 5p.m. Music department to host Christmas festival Brevard College’s Music Department will present a Christmas Festival at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 in the Porter Center for Performing Arts. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be a prism-style performance featuring ensembles and soloists from every area of the College’s Music Department. The Brevard College Jazz Ensemble will open the concert with "Killer Claus," an arrangement by Jazz Ensemble Director Steve Wilson. The BC Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Jamie Hafner, will perform Hayden's “St. Anthony Divertimento” and “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed. The BC Chamber Chorale will present several Christmas classics, including “Carol of the Bells” and “Deck the Halls.” The BC Percussion Ensemble will make an appearance as well with a beautiful Spanish Christmas Carol, “Nino Lindo.” Student vocalists Jenny Baxter and Blake Ellege will be featured with the Jazz Ensemble as well as other solo performers. The concert will close with Ellege and the BC Jazz Ensemble performing "Santa Claus is Back in Town," another arrangement by Wilson. Talent wanted for MLK celebration events Transylvania County’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Partners are seeking assistance in the planning and coordination of the county’s upcoming 21st Annual MLK Celebration. The 2011 celebration, entitled The Dream Begins With You, will be held Jan. 14 through 17. The group is looking for interested community members for the following committees: Friday evening kick-off event, Saturday Prayer Brunch, Monday evening Walk to Change and Monday evening celebration. In addition, they are seeking bands and other performers for the Friday evening kick-off event as well as volunteer service project ideas for a Brevard College student-led initiative called the MLK Challenge. Auditions for the Monday evening program will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6 and Tuesday, Dec. 7 in Dunham Auditorium.
