Devil's advocate:
By Brian Burgess
Managing Editor
Post-graduate plans for seniors will be cut
short this year due to the second coming of Jesus
Christ. According to ITarold Camping, founder
of Christian radio station “F amily Radio,” Jesus
Christ, the main character of the best seller the
Bible, will be making his appearance on Earth
after his 2,000 year hiatus in order to usher his
followers into heaven on May 21, 2011.
This will be followed by an encore on Oct.
21 where Jesus will manifest what many of
his readers would call his greatest work: the
destruction of Earth.
Camping has inspired many to not only adhere
to his revelation, but also support and spread it.
Through his radio show Camping has received
contributions from unexpected places. Marie
Exley, an unemployed Iraq vet from Colorado,
gave an astounding $1,200 to fund billboards
in her area.
Camping has even found followers in Raleigh.

second coming of Christ
Allison Warden, avid driver and rapture
enthusiast, has decorated her car with hood
to trunk stickers promoting wecanknow.com.
Other ways of spreading the word being used
are the distribution of free bumper stickers and
business cards, the most common means of
changing an individual’s religious beliefs. All of
these and free e-book downloads are available
on the website.
Camping had taken the date of the Earth’s
creation according to the Bible, added 7000
years and subtracted 1 (because there is no year
0) to arrive at May 21.
This, however, is not Camping’s first stab
at prophecy. In 1992 Camping, in the spirit of
William Miller, made an inaccurate prediction
that was chalked up to faulty calculation. He
seems to have been granted a mulligan by his
followers, though, and has a positive outlook
on the upcoming Armageddon. The rest of
us however will find more pleasure from the
following day, as Camping attempts to save
face, once again.
