Page 2 Campus News The Clarion \ Feb. 11,2011 How to celebrate Valentine's Day at BC By Melissa Sullebarger Staff Writer It’s difficult to wander through many stores in the area without encountering the tell-tale clusters of pink, red, and white that signify the expeditious approach of St Valentine’s Day. All the same. I’m sure that many of you have yet to make plans, so here for your perusal are four different local activities you can use to commemorate the beheading of a “heretic” from the Roman Empire. Forthose ofyou whose interests tend towards the natural, you can meet with The Friends of DuPont at High Falls for hiking early on Saturday. Time will be spent at the different waterfalls and hot chocolate will be provided. The Chick-Fil-A in Hendersonville will once again be hosting their hugely popular Valentine’s Candlelight Dinners. There will be a “Daddy- Daughter Dinner” on Saturday, and a “Couple’s Dinner” on Monday, Valentine’s Day itself Tableside service will be provided by their staff, and complimentary chocolate and flowers will be provided as well. I unfortunately cannot recommend this particular event to anyone outside the heterosexual persuasion, given the paradox implicit in celebrating your love through a corporation that disapproves of it. The Cradle of Forestry will be hosting their annual event Frog Love in the Pink Beds on Saturday in the Pink Beds Valley, which is an awareness program about the mating cycles of frogs native to the area. The program costs five dollars, and it begins at 1 p.m. in the Forest Discovery Center The group will then move on to a loosely guided walk through the valley, looking for frog habitats. So, if your idea of a good time is educating yourself or another in the particulars of the procreation habits of small amphibians, this may be the activity for you. Reportedly, stores and restaurants all throughout Downtown Brevard are offering specials over the weekend in what is being called their “Sweetheart of a Sale.” However, there does not seem to be any list of which establishments are taking part, so I would recommend that you come up with some form of Consumer Roulette for this one. So, your former excuse of there being nothing to do has been taken away. All the same, don’t let me guilt you into doing anything extravagant, personally, I plan to spend the day and its preceding weekend eating cookie dough and watching lousy movies with my friends and boyfriend. So whatever, you choose, don’t let the date on your calendar stress you out and don’t pronounce “Valentine” with an “M.” S/AUEMTTNE GIPT5 YoO SHOULD AVIOO... Cove /or...
