Feb. 18,2011 | The Clarion Arts & Life Page 7 Upsets at the Grammys By Scott McCormick Staff Writer There were more surprises in the resuhs of the winners of the 5 3rd Annual Grammy’s than in the performers and their outfits. Many were left bewildered and shocked after the results were revealed from some of the biggest categories at Sunday night’s award ceremony inside the Staples Center in Los Angeles. One of the biggest surprises was Arcade Fire winning the coveted Album of the Year for their album, ‘The Suburbs’ beating out favorites Eminem, Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, and Katy Perry. However, it was the category of Best New Artist that had people talking the most. When Esperanza Spalding won the award over predicted winner Justin Bieber, Bieber’s fans, also known as “Beliebers,” took to the web to spread hate against the Jazz player Her Wikipedia page was slammed when the Beliebers changed her name to “Esperanza Quesadilla Spalding” and wrote “Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?” Wikipedia promptly deleted the changes and locked Spalding’s page. But the night belonged to a country music group by the name of Lady Antebellum. Lady Antebellum took home five awards on Sunday night, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Country Album for “Need You Now.” With 98 of the 109 awards presented pre-telecast, producers of the show had plenty of space to fill in during the three and a half hour live show. Performances were nothing short of incredible with Lady Gaga premiering her song “Bom This Way” after being hatched from her red carpet egg. Bruno Mars turned the Grammy’s black and white in a retro performance of his hit song, “Grenade.” Eminem performed a chilling collaboration of “Love the Way You Lie” and “I Need a Doctor” with Rihanna, Skylar Grey, and Dr Dre, who performed for the first time on live television in more than a decade. Gwenyth Paltrow teamed up with a colorful Cee-Lo Green to perform Cee Lo’s Grammy Song of the Year nominated, “F— You.” FLU coMIM6 into ToWM Cartoon by Karam Boeshaar Turds on a Stick from Chef Boy-ar-Dave Average Cost of Meal: $5 Cook Time: 10 Minutes Wait Time: 1 Hour Serving Size: 10+ Ingredients: 1 Pack of Marshmallows 1 6-8 Pack of Hershey’s Chocolate Bars 1 Box of Toothpicks Instructions: Melt the chocolate over a double boiler. 'Tornados' from page 6 Jordan answered with a short jumper in the paint and Roper hit another three as Brevard held their first lead of the second half at 44-43 with 16:47 to play. The Tornados held the lead for the next five minutes before Wally Jones received the pass from Armstrong and drilled one from behind the arc to put LMU back up 54-52. Lincoln Memorial built a seven-point lead as Carden held the hot hand in the second half, draining four three-pointers in the second half, including one with 7:47 left in the game to give the Railsplitters their largest lead of the second half at 64-57. Brevard fought back, using an 11-4 run to tie the game up for the first time in the second half at 68 apiece on a three-pointer by Dombrowski and several possessions later, Roper tied the game up with a three-pointer from the top of the key, putting the score at 72 apiece with 3:20 left on the clock. Armstrong would drive hard to the basket on the next LMU possession, and as he attacked the basket, Roper fouled the junior guard and during the continuation of the play, would take an elbow to the mouth and have to be removed from the game due to the presence of blood. Following the four-point play by the junior forward, Dombrowski hit a pair of free throws with 26 seconds to push the lead to five at 82-77 and after three missed three-pointers by the Railsplitters in the waning seconds, Jermichael Tanner stole an errant LMU pass to seal the win as Brevard defended Boshamer Gymnasium, 82-77. Brevard overcame shooting 25.7 percent from behind the three-point line in the game, while forcing 19 LMU turnovers in recording the victory. Lincoln Memorial held the 38-32 rebounding advantage and hit 83.3 percent from the free throw line in the loss. Brevard takes to the road this weekend, traveling to Hickory, N.C. to take on Lenoir-Rhyne University. The Tornados took game one of the season series against the Bears on January 15th at Boshamer Gymnasium in overtime, 85-83. Tipoff in Shuford Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
