This Week on Campus IWIL hosts online auction for The Haven Brevard College’s Institute for Women in Leadership (IWIL) is hosting an online auction in April in support of The Haven, a proposed shelter for homeless families and individuals in Transylvania County. Auction items, which will include art, goods, services and trips, will be available for purchase from April 1-14 through Mission Fish, the charitable arm of eBay. Anyone interested in donating or bidding on auction items, may go to www.missionfish.org and search for The Haven of Transylvania County. The funds raised through IWIL's online auction will be used to help pay for the construction and operation of The Haven. The facility will assist homeless families and individuals in crisis in Transylvania County by providing safe, temporary refuge in a clean, comfortable shelter Plans call for The Haven, which will accommodate 18 people, to be located on the grounds of The Bread of Life, a local food bank. The total cost of construction for The Haven, a 1,400-square foot facility, will be $234,800. Operations are estimated to cost $90,500 per year IWIL is a residential learning community at Brevard College that encourages leadership through mentoring and experiential leadership projects. BC profs perform at trombone workshop Brevard College Jazz Studies Director Steve Wilson performed his composition “Invention for Jazz Trombone” at the Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington, D.C. on March 18. Joining Wilson was Brevard College Professor Cameron Austin on bass and BC alumnus Jason DeCristofaro on vibraphone. The Eastern Trombone Workshop (ETW)is one of the largest annual events for trombone in the world. The workshop’s mission is to give students, performers, and educators an opportunity to meet and share ideas, talents, and opinions about the world of trombone. ETW regularly hosts participants throughout the nation and abroad. The workshop was held at Brucker Hall—The U.S. Army Band’s performance center—located on historic Fort Myer, Va., just across the Potomac River from the nation’s capital.
