Page 6 Sports The Clarion \ April 29, 2011 Profile: Prince Simunyu By Park Elliot Baker Staff Writer As an art major and football player, Junior Prince Simunyu is quite active around campus. Recently, Prince sat down with me to answer some questions about himself and his time at BC. What’s your major? Art major, my medium is graphic design and photography What do you hope to do with your degree? I plan on going to SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), they have a program in Atlanta. I love Atlanta. I'm trying to work for a record label. Designing album covers, magazine layouts, clothes, just being in the commercial design world. I want to live in the city. One of my dreams is to buy a loft, have a studio in there and just create. You also play football? Yeah, I play outside line backer I'm also the captain of the defense. Tell me about the NFL draft pick. I'm ranked nationally among the 2012 class. I'm on the two-year all-conference. Depending on how hard I work, I have the opportunity to go pro. Where are you from originally? Originally my family is from Harare, Zimbabwe. We moved to Boston when I was 11 and now my family lives in Wake Forest. My dad got a job in advertising, so we moved. When did you decide you wanted to be an art major? A friend in high school showed me Photoshop. I started experimenting with the program and then started experimenting with other art programs and I decided I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. On campus, what are you involved with? Currently I’m a Student Senator in SGA, the Publicist for BSU, the Captain of the defensive line, and President of the Art Club. What's your favorite restaurant? Bojangles is my favorite food, “Four piece supremes dinner, with honey mustard. Four extra honey mustards please, and sweet tea” Who are your favorite recording artists? I like the Gorillaz, Andre 3000 and Bob Marley. I love independent films too. “Away We Go” is my favorite film. I also really liked “Must Love Dogs.” Oh, and I think O. J. did it, by the way. Who is your favorite visual artist? If Salvador Dali and Michel Basquait had a baby, that would be my favorite. What are your big-picture plans for the future? I have the second biggest family in Zimbabwe, I mean I own a lot of acres. I would like to build a school or an athletic facility. Takeout can eat up your savings. BC track team heads to conference meet By Jordan Tager Staff Writer BC’s track team travels to Lenoir Rhyne this Saturday to compete in the two-day SAC championships. The meet will be a great competition between the best local track and field teams around; teams such as Mars Hill, Catawba, Anderson, Wingate and many others. The almost all freshmen Tornado squad will be competing in the 5000 meters, 1500 meters, and 800 meters. Freshman Angela Canale will be competing in the 5000, with her impressive 4th place finish in the cross country conference championships last fall she certainly has the capability of another top-five performance. Erik Gibbs will be competitive in the 800 meter run. He has the correct training behind him and should run a fast time. Chris Shore is competing in both the 1500 and the 5000, he has the ability to excel in both of these events and has been working very hard. Senior Tiffen Tapia will be ending his collegiate career in the 5000 meter run. He has been running for Brevard for four years now and through his dedication and consistency he is able to go the distance, and use his experience and skill to hopefully run the best race of his life. This sixth meet of the season will be the Tornadoes’ last for the year. They now have a full year of training behind them and they are all motivated and in excellent racing condition. This Track season the Tornadoes have shown great improvement. This conference competition will give them one last chance of the season to run personal records and prove themselves to the whole SAC.
