Page 2 Applications to be a student ambassador now being accepted The Admissions Office is looking for Student Ambassadors for the 2011/2012 school year A Student Ambassador serves the Admissions Olfice in the recruitment, ho sting and welcoming of visitors to the campus. Brevard College Ambassadors play an integral role in the admissions process by giving tours to prospective students and their families, helping with Open Campus and Scholars Days, attending dinners for future students and assisting Admission Counselors in the recruitment of students. The job requires the ability to communicate and listen to a variety of people and make them feel comfortable in any situation. Ambassadors are often the "face of Brevard College" and the first impression that visitors get of the College and campus life, so a positive attitude is a must. The position requires a commitment of four hours a week and the flexibility to help when additional assistance is needed. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required. A recommendation by a professor is required. This can be in the form of a letter or an email to Jeni Smith - smithje@brevard.edu in the Admissions Office. Applications will be taken until June 15,2011 and interviews will be set up for the first two weeks of school next fall. Campus News The Clarion | May 6, 2011 Expert on successful college experience to speak Local high school students and their parents are invited to hear one of the country’s leading experts discuss ways to make their college experience a success on Thursday, May 12. The presentation by Dr. John Gardner, president of the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education and executive director of the Policy Center on the First Year of College, will be held at 6 p.m. in the Media Center of Brevard High School. The program is free and open to the public. A Senior Fellow at the National Resource Center and Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina, Dr Gardner is best known as the initiator of a movement in higher education to improve the first-year college experience. Ele is the recipient of many awards and honors, including 10 honorary doctoral degrees recognizing him for his contributions to the pursuit of excellence in undergraduate education. Elis wisdom and advice is helpful for both parents and students as they begin their search for the right college. The presentation is made possible by the Brevard College Board of Visitors. This Week on Campus Fellowship of Christian Athletes(FCA): Meets every Tuesday at 9 p.m. in the Spiritual Life Center. Team - Mobilizing Opportunities for Volunteer Engagement (T-M.O.V.E.): IMeets every Sunday at 7 p.m. in the AEC Conference Room. Campus Activities Board: Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Underground. Course and Advisor end of semester evaluations: Evaluations are now available on Webtwister through May 9. The new course evaluation form features fewer questions than it has had in the past. Also, all new this year is the option to evaluate your experience with your advisor. Open Gym: Sunday - Thursday 7-11 p.m. Play basketball, indoor soccer, pool and table tennis, plus - use the fitness center and bring a buddy to use the free weight room. Rec Room Midday Hours: Monday and Wednesday 12:30 - 1:30, Tuesday and Thursday 1-2. Use this time to shoot pool or play ping-pong, or to check out equipment. Airport Shuttles: The college will offer shuttles to the airport for those students in need of a ride. Shuttles will leave at 6:45 and 10 a.m. on May 7,10, and 15.
