Sept. 9, 2011 I The Clarion Campus News Page 3 Black Student Union hosts end of summer jam CAB [ CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD By Cassie Smatana staff Reporter This past Friday Night Trivia presented by CAB was a hit! On Sept. 2,2011 twenty students sat in the Underground of Coltrane to answer questions ranging from interesting history facts, pop culture, bizarre animals, and sports. The winning teams were named Bells and Bombshells. Good job, teams; I heard from a friend the questions were hard but the prize was well worth the use of brain power that went into answering the questions given out by Drew Schauss. “Fast Five,” the fifth “Fast and Furious” movie, was shown for CAB’s Sunday Night Movie Sept. 4, 2011. Free drinks helped to attract people to Dunham, but the intense excitement that was “FAST FIVE” kept students in their seats wanting to see what ending was going to be played out. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the begging scene involving stealing some rockin’ cars off a moving train and the excitement of an oncoming bridge which almost took the main characters’ lives! To say the least it started off with a bang and continued all the way through till the end. Total attendance count was around 75 students. Didn’t get enough movie action? Then come to the rescheduled showing of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” to see the great Jack Sparrow in his search for the Fountain of Youth, playing this Sunday night, September 11, at 9 p.m. in Dunham Auditorium. The Club Expo on Sept. 5, 2011 was a great chance to see what Brevard College Clubs have to offer to its fellow classmates. The clubs which are noticed by CAB and SGA are as follows: Participate in donating blood or platelets between September 1 and September 30, 2011 and enter our drawing to win two Delta Air Lines tickets and s S500 gift card! + American Red Cross BLOOD DRIVE Brevard College College Dining Hall Conference Room Thursday, September 15*^ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm ALL BLOOD TYPES NEEDED! If anyone was unable to make it out to the Club Expo and they are interested in finding out more about a club please contact Cameron Kahili, the SGA Club Council Director Meagen Crowson, CAB’s Talks and Topics manager, hosted a wonderful discussion about hair and how some people are defined by how their hair looks and what color it is. CAB and CMSI joined together to talk about this topic and asked people to bring in their personal hair products (shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, straighteners, gels, and hairspray). We took the time to talk about our hair and statements that everyone was trying to make and if we thought our hair was a big part of our lives. One question asked- How long does it take to fix your hair every morning? Senior Ashley Morrison had this to say about the I’m As Free As My Hair discussion, “I thought I knew the basics of how Caucasians took care of their hair when in reality I was still oblivious to the products they used and the precautions they had to take when doing their hair. I was very inquisitive and took in a lot of information. I learned new things like how Megan Walters uses baby powder in her hair to soak up oil.” I think all who attended learned how everyone is different and so is their hair and what they do with it. It’s hard to admit that people’s hair defines them as a person. In some ways it can dictate how someone wants to be presented and to what extent the activities they may be involved in allows them to look like. Some people put a lot of time and effort into their hair and others don’t. I don’t think our hair should define anyone as a person but it is one of the things I notice first about a person and I take way too much time trying to make mine look right. The Black Student Union is hosting an End of Summer Jam. “Mic check Mic check! Let’s get poppin! PARTY OVER HERE Whoop Whoop! Come outto the dance party thatBSUis throwing on Saturday , September 10, at 10 p.m. in the Underground of Coltrane. Lots of Music, Twerkin and Fun! ” says senior Ki'era Gash, the BSU Vice President. So come out on Saturday night after the home football game to kick off the weekend and the start of fall!
