Are you planning to attend graduate
school next academic year?
GRE discounts, practice tests available to BC students
Now is the time to begin preparing to take
the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)!
The GRE General Test is required by most
graduate schools for admission. To ensure
your scores are received by the deadline for
the school of your choice, please review the
timeline listed below in the chart.
On Aug. 1, 2011, the GRE revised General
Test was implemented. The GRE revised
General Test has some key changes that will
impact how you prepare for the test, how you
take the test, and when you can expect your test
scores to be sent to the institutions to which
you are applying. The test will still consist of
3 sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative
Reasoning and Analytical Writing.
There is an opportunity to save 50% on
the test fee if you take the test before Sept.
30, 2011. That means it will cost you $80.00
rather than the $160.00 normal fee. For more
information about the revised test, including
how to register for the test and download
free software to help you prepare please
visit www.ets.org or stop by the Office for
Career Exploration & Development for more
information.
The Office for Career Exploration and
Development will also host two sessions on
Graduate School Preparation on Sept. 12 and
Oct. 10 at 6:00 RM. in MG 138 which will
include more information about the GRE as
well as other graduate school information.

Clubs kick off fall semester
By Patrick G. Veilleux
Managing Editor
Brevard College’s Clubs are off to a
productive start in the Fall Semester. On
Monday, the SGA-approved clubs met in the
Reserve Dining Room in Myers to showcase
their organizations and recruit from the
student body.
Psychology Club president Karen Flowell
was pleased with the turnout and numbers
recruited at the expo. “If everyone who
signed up shows at the meeting, then we will
double our membership, we did really well,”
she said.
Most booths at the Expo had candy to
offer, but in the case of Mama’s Kitchen,
members jovially offered combread and a
peach spread to students as they walked by.
This is a simple preview of the great food
that the club will prepare on campus—food
that BC students will be able to partake in if
they are attentive.
Leslie Flylton offered surveys from the
Intramurals kiosk, giving students a chance
to say what kind of activities they wanted
to see around campus throughout the year
Choices included video game events, kickball,
dodge ball, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, 3 on 3
basketball, and more.
Many ambitions expand beyond the expo.
Both Psychology Club and the BC Pastimes
club are collaborating to turn Dunham into an
insane asylum for Halloween this semester
Both have ambitions to bring public speakers
to the college to give speeches to the student
body in the future.
“We have big plans
for this semester”
Pastimes president Meiissa Suiiebarger
Some of these plans are as simple as
arranging a road trip to the Native American
Reservation at Cherokee, N.C. in Pastimes
case. Psych Club, however, is arranging a
showing of “Silence of the Lambs” for BC
students. On the other hand some Psych Club
plans are as complex as setting up fundraising
activities with the National Alliance on Mental
Illness. The Pastimes Club also wants to set
up a public event for students where they can
fire pumpkins from a trebuchet. That’s right.
shoot giant pumpkins out of a catapult!
Pastimes president Melissa Suiiebarger
stated, “We have big plans for this semester,
the trebuchet being one of them. It’s ambitious,
but possible.”
Suiiebarger also encourages the campus to
take part in other public events in the future
such as the planned historical reenactments,
or learning from the elusive Dr Bauslaugh
about what he did on his sabbatical over the
past year Pastimes Club welcomes people to
attend its meetings at 6 p.m. every Thursday
in the MG 203 Lounge.
Howell also invites the campus to work with
the Psych Club on National Coming Out day,
an international civil service day devoted to
encouraging openness among the Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community.
Psych Club will offer support to the LGBT
community and encourage openness and
acceptance on the BC campus. Psych Club
meets every Thursday at 8 p.m. in MG 224.
