Page 2 Campus News The Clarion \ Sept. 16, 2011 BC donates blood to Red Cross 57 students, faculty/staff take part ByThea Dunn Layout and Design “Every pint you give saves three lives,” Emily Saunders, sophomore, and volunteer for the Red Cross blood drive said. Yesterday Brevard College supported the biannual Red Cross blood drive on campus. The drive is done once a semester and they are always looking for volunteers. This year there were approximately 57 people who donated, which beat their goal of 55. Saunders continued, “I think it’s a good cause and I'm proud to be a part of it.” Students, faculty, and staff waited their turn throughout the day to donate. Many people were double donors, giving two pints of blood. Brevard Junior Willie Jones said, “I have given blood six times, always a double donor I think it is very beneficial and it is great to have it on campus because it is a safe environment for students. They are more likely to participate that way.” THE Clarion Senior Editor in Chief . . . IVIanaging Editor . . Business IVIanager. Copy Editor Campus News . . . It was a blast watching a great childhood game being reenacted by college students and staff. Much to the dismay of the student team, the staff team (Sam Duquette, Ben Haymaker, Cole & Lindsey Altizer, Leslie Hylton, Mark Owens, Megan Walters) wonl 1 -8! One member of the student team, Meagan Crowson, said, “I’m not very good at sports, so I just talk a lot of trash and dress funny. ” There was a lot of laughing, and even a great section of fans and cheerleaders. Make sure to sign up for Intramural Ping Pong for this coming week! Also, this past Wednesday Resident Assistant Tyler Fisher hosted a poker night in the basement of Green. It was a huge success when students gathered together for a great card game, a perishable food buy in, and free refreshments.
