The Basketball Tip-off really set the tone for this year’s season for both men and women’s teams. There was a great atmosphere filled with excited fans and players as both teams introduced themselves to the supportive fan base. First it was the woman’s team playing themselves for 15 minutes showing off their skills against one another Then following the woman’s game, the men played one another as well. There were great plays of long three- pointers, dunks, and alley-oops just for the fans to enjoy. Micheala Watkins, a junior guard for the Tornados, enjoyed the events support. “There is nothing better than having a home crowd cheering for you when you are playing. And we are very excited about our home games because we know the crowd will be the same or even better,” she said. The crowd really got involved in this event. As the players were on the court, trivia questions were being answered by the fans about the coaching staff and certain players on both teams. Also during halftime and after the game, there were games set up for the fans to participate in and win great prizes. Then to end the night off, there was the Chicken Dance performed by all those who attended including the basketball coaches. Also during the song and dance free coupons for Zaxby’s were given out. Hyped fans David Lackey, Willie Jones, and Josh Smith dance to the music at half-time.
