'SOUTHEASTERfJ GAY CONFEREfJCE PLANS CONTINUE
Plans are uiell underujay for the 2nd Annual Southeastern Gay
Conference to be held at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill on April 1-'3. Delegates from gay organizations in
North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia have met several
times at UNC to coordinate activities and select speakers.
'The Southeastern Gay Conference is a celebration of' the gay
lifestyle that ujill feature speakers, films, exhibits, panel
discussions, workshops, and social events. Over 50 uiorkshops and
di scu ssions ■ have been scheduled. Some of the major speakers luill
includes Allen Young, Karla Oay, editors of "Out of the Closets--
\/oices of Gay Liberation" and "After You’re Out"; Dean O’Leary,
co-executive director of the National Gay Task Force; Loretta
Lotman, author of the "Trans-Lesbianic Follies" and a contributor
to the Village Voice; and H. Viayne Bardy, national coordinator for
the NGTF National Tea Dances. Other tentaitve" speakers include
film expert Vito Russo; Bill Smith, editor of Atlanta’s "The Barb";
Rita Mae Broun, author of "Rubyfruit Bungle"; and Louie Creuj,
founder of "Integrity." Funding is currently being sought for the
possible keynote speaker, Elaine Noble, noted state legislator
from Massachussetts.
Last year’s conference dreu over 300 lesbians and gay men from
11 southeastern,states, and this year’s conference promises to
be bigger and better. Those wishing to attend are urged to register
as soon as possible. Registration fees are :i5 before March 1,
06 during March, and 07 at the door. Free housing is guaranteed to
anyone who registers before March. Cooperative child care centers
uill be established during all conference activities. Checks should
