GSU GAINS OFFICIAL RECOGNITION
Greensboro—Gay students at UNC-G
met in September to organize the Gay
Student Union as a general support group.
The group of 20 gained official recogni
tion as a student organization from the
UNC-G Administration on Oct. 15, ‘’with
out question,” said a GSU spokesman.
Meetings are held on the first and
third Thursday of each month at 8:00 p.m,
in Kirkland (Elliott Student Center).

DGA BEGINS HOUSING REFERRAL SERVICE
The Duke Gay Alliance has initiated
a housing referral service for gays,
A spokesperson for the group said
the service is to cover the entire
Triangle area of Raleigh, Durham
and Chapel Hill. The telephone
number for the service and for the
DGA office is 684-3043 between 7:30
and 9:30 p.m. Sunday thru Thursday,

BEGINS PUBLISHING IN RALEIGH
Raleigh—A newspaper aimed at
serving the lesbian and gay commun
ity across North Carolina has begun
publishing bi-weekly in Raleigh. '
Staffperson Jim Baxter‘ says the
purpose of The Front Page is to
facilitate communication between
the numerous and diverse sectors of
North Carolina’s gay community.
"It's a step toward changing North
Carolina to the better for the gay
community,” he said.
The first issue contained news
and entertainment features.
Baxter asks for written contri
butions, comments, and criticism
to be sent to him.
The paper is distributed free
through its advertisers. Or annual
subscriptions via first class mail
are available for $12. The paper
will be bulk mailed to non-profit
organizations for the cost of
postage.

WOMEN’S COFFEEHOUSE MEETS TWICE MONTHL.
Raleigh—Women from Chapel Hill and
other communities are invited to at ten-,
the Women’s Coffeehouse in Raleigh,
This collective-run coffeehouse has
been in operation for a year and a
half. It usually meets on the first
and third Fridays of each month from
7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
The first meeting of the month is
usually a social and the second is a
program, usually with a woman performe
or speaker, A spokeswoman for the
coffeehouse said attendance averaged
25 and that the group was "mostly
lesbian".
The meetings are held at the
Unitarian Fellpwship at 119 Hawthorne
Road in Raleigh, across from the
Hillsborough Street Hilton Inn.

WINSTON-SALEM GROUP ORGANIZES
WINSTON-SALEM—Twenty-one gay s,
mostly men, met in Winston-Salem on
Oct. 29 to establish a gay support
group in the Twin City. A spokesman
said, "Organization will come slowly
given the social and political climate
in the city.” The primary focus of
the group will be social meetings for
now, with topical programs from sug
gestions.
Meetings are scheduled for the
third Sunday of each month.
