i I^MBDA (aiblina Gaj^A§§ociatioi|,]\f:w§lettei^ Vol. 9, No. 3 March 1983 Survival in a Hostile Society” North Carolina Conference "Survival in a Hostile Society" is the theme of the first North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Conference, which will be held the weekend of March 25, 26, and 27. The Conference will be held on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in conjunction with the annual Carolina Gay Associa tion’s "Gay Awareness Week," which begins Monday, March 21. The main goals of the Conference are to examine different aspects of socie ty's hostility toward homosexuals and to help gay men and lesbians develop more effective methods of surviving in a hostile society. A number of work shops have been planned, including Politics and Activism, The Law and its Effects, Social Issues, and Business and Work. In addition, workshops and discussions on Gay Health Issues, Religion, Coming Out, Young People and the University, and "Too Gay to be Straight/Too Straight to be Gay" haye been scheduled. Dan Bradley, the for mer President of the Legal Services Corporation, will speak and hold an ’ open forum. The weekend will also have its share of entertainment, with a coffee house Friday night, a dance Saturday, and a cocktail party late Saturday afternoon with cheese, wine, and beer provided by the N.C. State Gay Community and the Duke Gay and Lesbian Alliance. If enough conference goers express an interest, there will be a mass migra tion to a preselected restaurant in the Chapel Hill/Durham area for dinner on Saturday night.
