■ 11 Gay Choral Festival New York’s Lincoln Center will be the site of the first North American gay choral festival, to be held September 8-11, 1983. "Come Out and Sing Together!" (a.k.a. COAST) is the name of the fes tival, and participants will come from members of the Gay and Lesbian Associa tion of Choruses (GALA Choruses). More than 1000 singers from the U.S. and Canada are expected to attend. The COAST Festival will feature three concerts at Alice Tully Hall where indi vidual choruses will be spotlighted. All participants will join one of the massed mixed or men’s choruses during the final evening’s performance at Avery Fisher Hall. The Fisher concert will premiere some works specially commis sioned for the festival. Choruses planning to sing in the three Alice Tully concerts include the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus, the Montrose Chorale of Houston, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, the New Orleans Gay Men’s Chorus, the Stonewall Chorale of New York, the Seattle Men’s Chorus, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C. Joining these groups in the massed choruses will be individual participants from choruses in Atlanta, Boston, Columbus (OH), Detroit, Madison (WI), Portland (OR), San Francisco, and Vancouver. "One of the most exciting of these fundraising events is the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles’ benefit concert on April 19," said Charles Carson, fes tival chairperson. "The evening is titled ’Coast to COAST,’ and it’s going to be at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion with guest appearances by Bernadette Peters, Bonnie Franklin, and Robert Preston. Tickets for the New York festival will go on sale in June, and prices will range from $8 to $35. The theme of the conference is "Health Pioneering in the ’80s" and will offer over forty workshops and seminars addressing all aspects of lesbian and gay health. Special interest topics to be presented include sexually trans mitted disease services, alcoholism services, holistic health and lesbian/ feminist health issues. The Forum will bring together AIDS Care pro viders and decision makers and will focus on the medical, psychological, social and political aspects of AIDS. Highlighting the conference will be several guest speakers addressing a variety of health issues. These speakers include Virginia Apuzzo, Execu tive Director of the National Gay Task Force, and Karen Clark, a Minneapolis legislator, who will speak on Health as a Political Issue." In addition, Bernice Goodman will speak on Confront ing Racism, Sexism and Homophobia."
