Page 2 Lambda Mini-issue Celebration Week Events by Jennifer Poorbaugh MARCH: This Friday anyone interested in marching around campus will gather at noon in the Pit. There will be plenty of signs to carry along. There may even be a band to lead us! SEMI-FORMAL DANCE: Ask someone at the Pit table about the time and place. This dance is semi-formal so dress nice, but you won’t need a tux. CAMPING: Ask someone at the Pit table about the meeting time and place and transportation. This event is going on over the weekend of March 28. We will be joined by students from Duke, Central, State, UNC-G, ECU, and Appalachian State. IN THE PIT: A table can be found every day of Celebration Week in the Pit. Staffed by friendly B-GLAD exec members, this table will offer an array of information and stickers. Here you will find issues of Lambda, information about this week's events and other oncoming events, and pamphlets on various topic. GAY AGENDA: This is a movie (it's free to come watch it) concerning anti-gay propaganda used by the religious right. It will be followed by a thought-provoking discussion. NIGHT OF THE DIVAS: Tickets for this event cost S5 for students and S7 for non-students. This will be the first professional female impersonator show at UNC. Brittany, Kirby, Sonya, and Taylor Scott are the stars of this show hosted by Melodie Hooker, our own UNC drag queen. MEL WHITE: The event is free. Mel White, former ghost writer for Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, will be speaking about the Christian Right and how he came to terms with his sexuality. AMANDA MARIS; This event is free. Amanda Maris will be performing solo, but there will also be other performers at this event. Co-editor's Corner by Jennifer Poorbaugh and Joy Liau Surprise! We are back already with a special mini-issue for Celebration Week, an annual event at UNC. This week received its current name from Trey Harris in 1994. Before that, it was called Gay and Lesbian Awareness Week. Existing as long ago as the early '80s, this has been a long-standing event at UNC. Take pride this week in your identity, and rejoice in being gay, bi; lesbian, or allied! During the week of March 23-27 at UNC, B-GLAD is scheduling a series of events in honor of Celebration Week. Check out the details on this week’s events; the schedule is on the last page while summaries follow this article. We hope you enjoy this mini-issue as much as you enjoy all our other issues (by the way, you can still get a copy of the February issue). We are still looking for people to fill positions for staff writer, editing/layout, and many others. If you are interested, contact one of us, or Ken Hewett. X FREE ADMISSION!! MFT.
