Snow Disrupts Schedule Bv: Kelly Gannon Another snow fall has blanketed Louisburg College. Many students found them selves stranded here for the weekend. With the snow turning to rain and the temperatures rising, many found their way safely home the next day. North Carolina has been recently hit with three major snow storms. The first one dumped over 3 inches of snow, and the second one over 7 inches of ice. Then, one week later, a few more inches of snow accumulated. When students were asked how they spent their spare time, the most frequent answer was, “I did nothing”. Most p>eople said that they either watched television or played cards. Others used the spare time to catch up on homework, work on research papers, or study. The more adventurous were found doing doughnuts in the parking lots, sleighriding, or involved in snowball fights. Some went “skiing”, by hanging onto the bumpers of moving cars for their thrills. Just two days after our last snow fall, the temperatures soared into the sixties, and melted away the remaining snow. “Spring Fever” was soon caught by everyone. Wearing shorts and T-shirts, most spent the day in leisure. Whether it be tossing around the baseball, or walking around campus, the sun and warm weather was welcomed by everyone. Tine Golunins Golumn I The Doobie Brothers, Elton John, and Mother’s Finest, as well as many original songs. “The Band of Oz”, a showband, plays beach music and top 40 hits. This popular group has been playing clubs, colleges, and in every major beach music festival in the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia for the last 15 years. They were voted “Best beach music band” at the Beach Music Awards held in Myrtle Beach, SC in 1982. Their song “Southern Belle”, which was nominated for best beach song, is featured on their latest album. Keep Keeping It Up. Because “Sidewinder” and “The Band of Oz” play different types of music, this concert should have something By LOUIS EWEBURG Now that Spring Break is over, everything is going downhill. Do you remember how much you used to wish to be out of school? If you look back now at how you had it then.,you will probably laugh. Think about the way school used to be. Blocks. Lincoln Logs. Play Dough. Legos. That is a progression of the things you used to do in school. Now that we’re all “grown-up” we don’t play with toys like those. Someone invented Trans formers. I “Whatta you mean I gotta sit down?” I gotta leam the whole National Athem? By myself!” “Okay, I’ll get mommy to sign this paper.” “Really daddy, I gotta have a pencil box and a G.I, Joe Lunch Box tomorrow or they’ll kick me out,” And of course, the classic “How long till recess?” Come on people, those were the days. What are the questions that we ask today? “What year did that happen, again?” “How do you spell that?” “Chloro-what? Photo- who?” “Wait, but didn’t ‘x’ mean 12 yesterday?” And of course, “How long till recess?” I always loved the talks that we used to get in the second grade. A policeman or a fireman would come to school and he would always, and without fail, bring a slide projector with him. Tne policeman’s function is to tell you how to cross the street and points to the sceen and flashes a picture of a man with his foot stretched out toward the street. Who cares? “You ever shoot someone? Lemme see your gun.” Kids were cruel when we were in school and I guess they still are to some extent. As soon as someone got a haircut or a new pair of shoes up went the chants and it was fun then. Now, “wow-new hair do!” Every kid seemed (to themselves) the epitome of one particular thing it seemed and ^ids played from that trait: the red-haired girl always seemed to have it rough and so did the “plesantly plump” kids. Everyday seemed to be a struggle and yet now it seems like it was such a breeze and indeed it was. At this time in our lives things were a lot different with reguard to the sexes. How many times can you remember hearing those two blood- curdeling words screamed across a classroom - “Girl Germs!” For a made up condition, it sure had a lot of remedies, it came in sprays, pills, and liquids. And now, a mere ten or fifteen years later we are using the same things to attract. I think that’s where they got the ideas for vitamins, breath spray, and colognes. It’s funny how things change over the years. It seemed everyone hated the opposite sex at an early age but everyone had at least one crush on a teacher. Look back now to see what they looked like and you’ll probably be surprised. You’d laugh if you saw pictures of the way you used to look too. Why did parents buy bell bottoms. Snoopy shoes, and those ghastly plads? I guess they didn’t like us and got back at us through our dress. If you think about it, the good olde days were pretty goc^. Oh to go back the thrilling days of yesteryear - same bat time, same bat station.
