Frazier: ‘Not Paying
Attention to Record’
Courtesy of The Franklin Times
Since January the Louisburg
College baseball team has been
preparing themselves for the
1987 Eastern Tar Heel
Conference race. Inclement
weather has kept the team
indoors for the most and it has
been difficult for Hurricanes
Coach Russell Frazier to
evaluate the strengths and
weaknesses of his 1987 squad.
The teams 40-8 1986 records
will not have the attention of
Coach Frazier. “This season
I’m not going to pay attention
to our record,” said Frazier.
Frazier wants this years team to
be prepared to pay the season
end tournaments. The ’Canes
for the past few years have
played good regular season
ball, but have not faired well in
other tournament play. This
year Frazier wants to see that
record to change.
The team will have a vetran
line-up taking the field in ’87.
The infield will be strong with
Clyde Boyette at first, Bobby
George, a freshman, will start
at second, short will be manned
by Daune Rhine and
sophomore all american
Darrell Tingle at third. 'Die
starting line-up for pitching
duties will be handled by Tony
Beasley, Steve Sheppard and
Keidi Frink. Frink will be die
Hurricanes starting hurler.
The outfield will be taking
different looks game to game.
Steve Sheppard, Chubby
Sanders and James Faulk will
be starting against opponents
pitching right-handers and if a
left-hander starts Brian
Lancaster, Jeff Smith and
Joe lannello.
Coach Frazier believes his
team will hit the ball good, but
be slower on the bases. Frazier
also believes the team will get
better defensively after the
season continues.
