Tuesday, Feb. 11,1986 Black Ink The Black Ink thanks all contestants and extends congratulations to Dawn Witherspoon, winner, Emmett Steward, 2nd place and Felecia Moore, third Karen Joyner and Timothy Lucas Penni WUkie and Shawn Bethea Deidra Butts and Frank Abbott Confessions of a Friendship Toi Davis and George Wilson ^•1 Teresa Morrison and Mark Gordon Sonya Adams and Asa Bell Jr. Love is the flight of a leaf. Buffeted and blown Til the ground comes hard below, And then love takes flight again. Higher now, then higher still — To rest among the clouds And to hide from idle passersby. It flutters Til you and I sight the leaf And chart it’s course before us. To a muddy puddle. To an overgrown lawn. To an empty gutter. And then love takes flight again. We grasp the stem and soar. If I were artistic I would paint a portrait of my friends And try to capture those special qualities That make them unique yet part of a whole A suggestive smile, a knowing wink, a twinkle in an eye If I were poetic I would pen a verse about my friends And attempt to put down on paper The essence of our friendship The fun and laughter, the shared experiences, the late night discussions And if I were imaginative I would tell a tale of some special people And perhaps let them know How much I have enjoyed their company One on one, over the phone, in one big group But I’m only average And so I must rely on plain ordinary words To express my thanks for letting me share their lives Thank you, bless you, and know that I will always care. Dawn Witherspoon Dawn is a senior biology major from Kannapolis, N.C. Audrey Joyner and Gordon Hill Mamie Wilkins and Joseph Maddox Love of One, "Til The End of Time Love is an expression of one It is an emotion of pain and pleasure — It is the pain of hurt and lies, but It is the joy of two minds, two hearts, two > bodies that warms with desire and sets the soul on fire. Love is a choice of one. . . It is a time of commitment and faith — It is the choice of freedom and loneliness, but It is the hope of love that will last until the beginning of forever or ‘til the end of never. Love is a secret of one. . . It is a moment of sharing and caring— It is the sharing of love and feelings, and It is the token that joins two people that can never be broken. Love is an expression, a choice, a secret that grows and lives through two that make it as one, ‘til the end of time.
