There’s A Great Sweetheart 'Black Ink The Essence of the Omega Sweethearts The 38 members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity sweetheart organization started out the year with a change. The group shed its former name of Omega Sweethearts and adopted the new title of "Q-Essence," to be in accord with Omega sweethearts on other university campuses. These ladies can be seen around the campus donning the yellow and purple colors of the fraternity they support — Omega Psi Phi. Q-Essence has a lot of activities plann ed for the coming year. This little sister organization has service as well as social projects lined up. They also plan to sup port their fraternity in whatever functions it organizes for the year. Some of the projects the organization has planned include visiting nursing homes, pediatrics wards and orphanages. The group also plans to send Thanksgiving baskets to needy families and to also help them out during Christmastime.- Q-Essence plans to be more than just another sweetheart organization this year; they plan to be the essence of the WHKm 9 sweetheart organization. These young ladies compose the 1986-87 Kappa Alpha Psi sweetheart court of the Theta Omicron Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Frater nity, Inc. The Kappa Kourt, as it is more com monly referred to, is made up of 13 members. The Kourt added seven freshmen to its organization this year and one sophomore-transfer from Emory University in Georgia. The first Kappa Kourt to grace the cam pus of UNC was organized in the spring of 1976. Sophomore Terri Timberlake calls the Kourt “an auxilary group to support the brothers and the functions they organize, such as service projects, fund raisers and dances.” The Kourt also does its own service projects such as working with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and the Upward Bound Tutorial Program. The group also plans to adopt a child through the big-brother/big-sister service. Condra Jones said that what distinguishes them from the other sweetheart organizations is that because they are a small group, they are close to the brothers and to each other. “You get more accomplished with a small group,” said Timberlake. “We are small in membership but not in action. Jones describes the group as being a family. The group meets every week to discuss upcoming functions and ways to support the Nupes. THE YOGURT PUMP 942-PUMP 106 W.
