Discovery '88 is quicily approaching
and coming with it will be Robert Town

Hollywood Shuffle and a cast of other
black entertainers in the filmaking in
dustry. BSM coordinating staff member
Janet Roach said that Discovery will also
feature other black leaders in the areas of
education, economics and politics.
Thursday, February 25 is the
scheduled date for a talent show sponst)red
by the Freshman Class Committee.
Friday, February 26 begins part one
of the Black Filmaking series. Robert
Townsend will speak after each showing
of his film on the issue of blacks in film.
The showings are scheduled for 6:(K) p.m.
and 9:00 p.m.
On Saturday. February 27. registra
tion for Discovery begins at 8:30 a.m. in
the lobby of Greenlaw Hall. Registration
is free, and the information desk will be
open all day. Saturday's activities include
a progrant on Economics and Careers
with speaker Sandy Darity, professor in
the UNC School of Economics. Follow
ing a lunch break, part two of the Black
Filmaking series continues with a discus
sion of blacks in the media, emphasizing
NAACP leader Kelly Alexander will
speak on blacks in politics, followed by
;i discussion of the critical issues facing
blacks on campus.
After a dinner break, the day's ac
tivities will close with part three of the
Filmaking series. Beginning with the
showing films featuring two of the day's
speakers. Reginald Hudlin and Monica
The fmal day of Discovery, Sunday,
February 28, is a banquet sponsored by
Black Women United. The event will be
held in the north banquet room of Lenoir
Flail at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are currently
