The BSM Freshman Class Committee Now Accepting Applications For 1990 By Sherry A. Waters Contributor The Freshman Class Committee (FCC), one of the various committees of the Black Student Movement (BSM), serves to generate a freshman voice to the BSM. BSM Vice-President Toija Riggins will hold the responsibility of organiz ing the freshman committee this year. Riggins said the committees of the past have not shown enough direction. “If they (freshmen) have a mission, I feel that the FCC would prove more successful.” Riggins said. Riggins also said she expects the FCC to complete at least three projects each semester. “I want to make sure that the FCC has something to show for themselves at the end of the year.” Riggins said. Several projects planned for the fall include helping with the BSM voter registration, and holding a raffle to raise money for the BSM. Riggins said the FCC for the 1989-1990 academic year was successful in sponsoring a raffle, which is why it is included in the FCC agenda this year. Another idea planned for the FCC this year is a “aam-a-thon,” which will serve as an incentive for getting freshmen to study for their final exams Riggins said. The goal is to get people to pledge a desired amount of money for a period of study time. Riggins also said another “cram-a- thon” as well as activities for Black History Month will be held in the spring semester. The BSM will accept applications Sept. 13 for freshmen wishing to serve on the FCC. Interviews, conducted by BSM Central Committee members, will be scheduled for the week of Sept. 19. People applying to serve on the FCC will be evaluated according to their high school involvement, their willingness to serve, and their interviews.
