Maintaining its philosophy of creating and performing original choreography, the company Holmes ’ successor to carry out his vision and bring the company to world-class prominence. The Joseph Holmes Dance Theatre is the recipient of two 1988 Ruth Page Awards, on for Out standing Choreographer of the Year (Mr. Duncan), and one for Outstanding Dancer of the Year People, Arts groups audiences of all ages with the breadth of it repertory. From "Aretha,"a suite from the streets, to ‘Turning Tides,” an exquisite expression of emotion, JHDT il luminates life’s dramatic mo ments. Founded in 1974, the company was led for 12 years by Joseph Holmes, founder and director. In 1986, after Mr. Holmes’ death, Randy Duncan was chosen as Mr. (Patrick Mullaney, company member). It is also the recipient of a 1986 Ruth Page Award for Out standing Artistic Achievement. The company has an extensive na tional touring roster which takes it to the East Coast, the South, and throughout the Midwest. The 1988-89 season brought the company’s first international en gagement, in Israel.
