FEATURES 10 FEBRUARY 10, 1993 I What’s ahead for the Spring of ’93? By Karen Greene /nJc Columnist Well friends, it’s a new year, a new semester, and a new start. But before we look ahead, I’d like to take a look back at Fall ‘92, an interesting semester indeed. First of all. I’d like to recognize all those loyal B(X protesters for struggle after listening to Khalid X? Gee, who was the programming genius that came up with that one? My favorite quote: “Uh, we didn’t know he was going to say all that” Okay, how about inviting the Grand Wizard of the KKK for Race Relations Week? I wonder what he’ll say....? B-side myself. I must commend the founders of BAG for getting involved and taking a stand. Better late than never, I always say. We can’t mention the move ment without mentioning Malcolm X, that icon of that new-found blackness so many of us seemed to DON’T SWEAT THE TECHNIQUE that long, hard, two weeks of pro testing. Your support to the BCG Coalition, BSM and BAG was truly—half assed. Q: What do we want? A: BGG! Q: When do we want it? A: When it’s en vogue to pro test! I guess it’s just a little too passd these days. And 1 was really disappointed by the loss of white students’ sup port I mean, after that truly inspi rational BGG rally they should be ^own, right? What white person in their right mind wouldn’t join ihe As for Hardin’s support of a BGG—Psyche! The world thinks we got a BGG. I’m sorry, we got gaffled. Excuse me, do we have anything besides a committee? Hello? “Oh, we’re making some recommendations....” I recommend that you wake up and realize that “Hey, let’s fwm a committee” is the Man’s way to say “Quick! Let’s do something to shut these silly negroes up! ” A lot of good things did come out of last semester, though. A lot of B things. A BSM ball, a BGG party, a B.A.T.T.L.E., a B.R.A.G£.,a B-Glad,a BAG...I’m espouse. “Forget Martin Luther King! I am Malcolm X.” What can I say about Malcolm? He was a virtuous, learned man with an incredible talent for deliv ering speeches. And he did so much for our people when he...well he didn’t actually do anything. Think about it. There should be a movie out about Thurgood Marshall. Now there was a great man! Up there on the Big bench You can thank him for a lot—mainly just being here. W^o litigated Topeka vs. Brown? Look it up. Man, we should all be walking around with big T’s on our clothes wearing long black robes and wielding gavels. There’s a man who should be re membered. Hey...whatever happened to the Kappa sweethearts....? Anyway, on to Spring ‘93. My predictions: The administration will continue to dance around the BGG thing. I know; why don’t we set another deadline—and wait until we actually get something before we call it off this time! Gampus elections will be their usual pain in the rectum. And what about the brother who’s running? That’s right What about him? His platform; Race relations are his top priority, but he has no earthly idea what to do about them. But if you elect him, a black non-greek male, this university will look like it’s come a really long way. The sad part about it is that he actually said this, folks—I’m not exagerrating! Not only that but let’s see.... this university had a black SBP way back in the seven ties. Race relations were hell then and they are now. Is having a brother who puts white people on his campaign posters really going to help the situation? I don’t think so. Secondly, what’s up with this “non-greek” clause? Is that sup posed to be a virtue, nowadays? Just what is he trying to say? That one has to be greek to be president? That’s not true, Mr, Patillo. You just have to know people. Who the hell are you!? The BSM p-esiential election will definitely be a trip. Have you seen the nominees? Lord, let us pray. It’s a choice between the mili tant the military, the mental case, the mouth-almighty, and the Mack E>addy. Hck one. I see the GNN is getting more and more up in people’s business. So what else is new? Get ready to welcome some new Greeks to the yard. I believe Spring ‘93 is going to surprise a lot of people. Youknow.people whothink they know who’s having a “line,” people who think they know who’s “on line,” people who never thought certain people would pledge any thing and people who just knew certain people were going over— including themselves. Ah...it’s Spring again. Well, that’s all I can say for now. Keepon keepin’ on—and I’m gone!
