1985 UNCW becomes member of the Colonial Athletic Asso ciation. Douglas Moore appointed vice chancellor of university advance ment in June 1986. Establishment of the Center for Marine Science Research Au gust 31, 1988. Chancellor Wagoner and Dr. Will S. DeLoach, profes sor emeritus of chemistry, at the dedication of DeLoach Hall in October 1985. 1988-89 Graduate School established. Graduate programs opened in biology, chemistry, English, history, mathematics, and Mas ter of Arts in Teaching. Jean and Harold Greene, benefactors of the Harold Greene Track and Field Complex, and Chancellor Wagoner hold the Olym pic torch used in the September ’88 dedication ceremonies of the com plex. 1989 Office of International Programs established. 1989 Fall semester 1989 - beginning of the first Ph.D. program at UNCW in marine science as an interinstitutional cooperative with North Carolina State University. 1990 In February 1990, the N.C. Bio technology Center awarded a $100,000 grant to UNCW to es tablish a permanent multidisci plinary biotechnology program in marine botany. The management site of North Carolina’s four National Estuarine Research Reserves and two coastal reserves was relocated from Raleigh to UNCW’s Center for Ma rine Science Research in April 1990.
