To “pull together and not to
tear things down,” is the
ultinnate goal that Abrah Adams ,
and Mike Hollingsworth hope?'
to achieve when they take
office this Fall as the new SGA
president and vice-president.
Running under the campaign
slogan of “Student Servants,
not Public Figures,” Adams
and Hollingsworth took over 6 0
percent of the votes cast in last
week’s general elections.
According to SGA election
officials, this year’s campaign
was the biggest in recent
history here at Gaston College.
It was also, according to
these same officials, the
“dirtesf ’ of the elections with a
lot of name calling.
Although the total number of
votes cast represented less
than half of the entire student
body of the college, it is still
considered a great victory for
all the party’s concerned.
“It was the definately the
biggest turnout in along time,”
said SGA Election Chairperson
Frank Stewart. “I was very
pleased with the student
participation. ”
Elections took place on
Wednesday, April 25th through
Friday, April 27th with votes
being tabulated on Friday
afternoon. Winners were
notified that evening.
It took election officials over
2V^ hours to talley the ball^its.
“There were a lot of ballats
to count,” Stewart said. “It
took several hours to go
through all of them.”
According to Stewart, the
biggest number of students
who turned out to vote cast
their ballats on Wednesday.
Over 90 ballats had been turned
in within the first hour that the

Warriors drop in tourney's finals
From staff reports
WHITEVILLE — They gave it all
they had.
Gaston College traveled to
Whiteville this past weekend to
defend its men's state softball
title in the fourth annual North
Carolina Comprehensive
Community College Softball
Tournament.
After winning the title last
year, the Warriors had high
hopes of bringing home a
second title — but that just
wasn’t the case as Gaston’s
men’s team took a 8-6 defeat at
the hands of Rowan Technical
College in the championship
game.
Gaston also sent a women’s
team to the state tournament
this year. The Lady Warriors,
who had a poor finish last year,
also brought home a trophey for
their third place finish.
Under the direction of Dianne
George, a Gaston Nursing

did and exceptional job,
considering the past history of
Gaston Ladies.
The Lady Warriors won two
out of four games in the round-
robin segment of the two-day
tournament, then lost in the
championship round to Rowan
Technical College.
“Dianne did an excellent job
preparing the women’s team,”
said Gene Newman, head
coach of the men’s team and
director of Intramural Sprts.
“She practiced afternoon and
evenings for several weeks
prior to the tournament. ”
Mrs. George was assisted by
her husband Bart and guidance
counselor Pam Murray.
With over 29 prospects
registering for the team in early
March, a small group of brave
and hearty women emerged to
form the fighting Lady Warriors.
