Page 2, THE PILOT Thursday, October 3,1974 This Is Your Newspaper An Editorial By Wofford Caughi As editor of the paper this ganization, none of the staff year, I hope to bring to you, the students especially, a paper that you will look for ward to receiving. You might ask how can I do this in a small college paper like the Pilot. I know that there is no way possible for the Pilot to come out with the hottest, latest news. Right now I would like to explain how the Pilot staff works. It is a volunteer or- students just like everybody else and has to pull their own academic load. How can we put out a paper that people will look , , ., forward to receiving? The m, proofread, typed and laid ^est way is to make it a out for the printer. Then it students, receives credit for the work they do. After each staff member gets their assign ment he has a week to get it usually takes close to a week for the printer to get the paper back to us. So, right there the news is close to two weeks old. We would like to cut down the time, but the staff of the Pilot are Letter To The Editor We, too, believe that one of the major subjects of conver sation is that of rules, for males and females. We agree that females should have less restrictive rules, particularly curfew hours. However, it should be noted that the reason for curfew is mainly that of protection, after all, the administration is partly responsible for all of us. Also, we believe the “concerned female” has not con sidered the institution in which she is referring to. Gardner- Webb is a Christian school and must write their rules ac cordingly. As far as discrimination goes males must comply to the rule of hair length. How would girls like having hair above the collar? We live with it and as a matter of fact, we sup port it. If males must have curfews, then it is only fair that girls should have their hair cut. And if she thinks the dis crimination is bad now, then perhaps she should plan on be ing a hermit because discrimination against women is much but we are doing this to keep worse in society. the author from being con- In closing, we would like to see the females’ rules slack ened somewhat, but not at the loss of our privileges. We feel paper where the students can view their own opinions. Maybe the Pilot put too many restrictions upon the people who would like to write a ‘Letter to the Edi tor’, we are changing this rule. You can have as many words as you wish, but we still ask you to sign your name to each entry. If you wish for the Pilot to with hold your name in the paper just add this request to the entry, but the Pilot is to know the author. Don’t worry, every entry will be destroyed after publication and only the editor of the Pilot will know who the au thor was. Many people expressed to the Pilot that we should have the people’s name to each ‘Letter to the Editor’, fronted by people who might think differently on the sub- that if the rule is changed, then the “concerned female” ject. Of course, if you wish should approach it with a better frame of mind and consider the rule as a whole.
