Ms. Donna Ellington
By Michelle O'Brien
History is being made at
Gardner-Webb this semester. A
female professor has invaded
the history department, much
to the chagrin of Dr."Keep'em
barefoot and pregnant" Eastman
Just kidding. Dr. Eastman. We
know you are a closet liberal!
This fall marks the first time
a female voice has been heard
echoing through the halls,
carrying the data of the infa
mous "Western Civ." classes.
Ms. Donna Spivey Ellington
has taken up residence in
office 105 in the Social
Science Department— her first
full-time teaching position.
She taught on a part-time
basis at Appalachian State
University for two and a half
years, where Ms.Ellington also
received her B.A. and M.A. She
has also taught summer school
at U.N.C.C. She is currently
working on the completion of
her doctoral work at Duke
University.
Ms. Ellington and her hus
band, Alfred Stephen Ellington,
presently reside in Charlotte,
but plan to move to Gastonia
in the near future. Her areas
of concentration include
Church History and Medieval
Renaissance Music, an interest
which she shares with her
husband. Welcome,Ms.Ellington.
Sandy Basinger
By Michelle O'Brien
Some people possess an
unfeigned talent for breaking
down stereotypes. Sandy
Basinger is such a person.
Sandy is a freshman from
Rockville, N.C. If you plan to
attend many athletic events
this year, you will soon come
to recognize her, for she
plans to participate in all
three women's sports. Sandy
was a four-sport athlete in
high school, participating in
volleyball, basketball, soft
ball, as well as shot and
discus.
In her senior year, Sandy
was the recipient of the
"Rowan County Female Athlete
of the Year Award", indicative
of her athletic abilities and
general well-roundedness. She
was involved in many high
school clubs, some of which
include the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes, Sports
Appreciation Club, and the
French Club. Sandy maintained
a position as an Honor Student
while balancing these activi
ties. She plans to major in
Biology here at Gardner-Webb.
Look for Sandy in left field
during softball season and at
point guard on the basketball
court. Concerning volleyball,
Sandy speaks highly of the
coaches and captains and ex
pressed a very positive out
look for the season.
