Printed by Republic Newspaper Inc. It's finally over ell. the school year is nearly through. Where has the time gone? It seemed like only yesterday we started. As I look back over this year. 1 remember the tragic incidents from last se mester. The deaths of Dana, Patty, Ms. Street, and Dr. Andrews will continue to remain in our thoughts. With all the tragedy that happened at the beginning of the year, one wondered if the year would ever end. Then came Spring. The Spring semester brought many new positive changes for Gardner- W'ebb. We got a new basketball coach and a new School of Education. The cafeteria food service was bought out by a better company, and every body got a free frisbee! The end of this year marks the end of my term as Editor of this wonderful paper. I have learned so much from this experience. There are so many people I wish to thank. First, I want to give a big thank you to Dr. June Hobbs; Her guidance has meant so much to me. She was actually able to put up with my pro crastination. I will miss working with her next year. She is a wonderful professor and a great friend. Thank you Dr. Hobbs. I also want to thank all those wonderful people in Student Development for all the insights to the happenings at G-W. Thanks Audrey, Dean Scott, Mrs. Webb, and Wayne. Thanks for letting me hang out in your offices when I had nothing to do. It was great to be able to work with you. You are all terrific people. Keep up the good work. Next year I am pursuing a new position. It is that of manager of the football team. Yes, I will be on the sidelines fixing helmets, shoulder pads, etc. I hope that job will be as beneficial as this one. No maner what memories you have from this year, I'm sure they are special to you. I hope ev eryone has a wonderful summer and if finals are getting you down, remember this: there is only 100 days left until the '95-96 academic year. C-ya! Jason Farr Editor Recently, the Barking Bulldog roamed the campus to get various student opinions on the al cohol problem that is obvious on our campus. Here is the question asked: How could the administration of Gardner-MVebb University better control the alcohol problem on campus? Here are the student’s responses: “The university could better control alcohol on campus by enforcing the rules when they find the alcohol.” Kim Hardegree Freshman “The university could better control alcohol on campus by allowing more lenient rules on off- campus housing. They cannot change everyone and people will still drink. So, if they don't want alcohol on campus, let more students be eligible to live off-campus. This would allow them a place to drink and, therefore, would not reflect any nega tive light on the university itself.” Tori Smith Freshman “There is no more a problem here than any where else. It's what happens when students have a choice.” Toby Hopper Junior “The reason alcohol is such a problem on campus is because no one sees it as a serious prob lem. People should open their eyes to reality.” James Julian Sophomore “The university could better control alcohol on campus by being more strict on first-time of fenders. They should punish them instead of only giving them a warning and letting them go.” Amy Armstrong Sophomore “If we can admit that there is a problem and determine what that problem really is, I think we can then solve many of our alcohol related prob lems concerning Gardner-Webb students.” Tamela Morrow Sophomore “ I think that if you are 21 or older you should be allowed to drink on campus as long as you don't have it out in an open container.” Michelle Michael Junior “ Acknowledge it!” Garrick Scott Senior “ I think that the university needs to get bet ter R.A.'s because the one's who know about it don't do anything. They shouldn't announce room checks either because people who have alcohol will get rid of it.” Carolyn Stuckey Freshman “ I think that there is a serious problem but no soluable solution.” Brian Clubb Freshman “ I think it should be allowed on campus to those who are of legal drinking age. I think that such a move would prevent many off-campus ac cidents, and I think that students would be more responsible in this environment. It is not some thing that can be fixed right away, so why not try and make it a little safer now.” Abdul Asghar Graduate Student “ As far as I am concerned, there is not a problem on this campus.” Melissa Ervin Senior “ One of the first steps to solving this pifb- lem is to get more responsible coaches and have the current coaches to stop going to parties.” Anonymous CONGRATUTA TTONS Wendy Davidson & Garrick Scott Spring Formal Queen & Kins
