The Lady Bulldogs, the number six-seed, took on num ber three-seeded Catawba . Amanda Henderson led the Dogs with a career high 22 points. She also added eight rebounds. Viada Turauskatie had 20 points, hitting five 3- pointers. These two combined for 42 of the Dogs 63 points. Tresita Holland also added 8 points and 8 rebounds. Catawba defeated the Lady Bulldogs 74-63. The Ladies ended the season with a 12-14 record. The men took on top-seed- ed Wingate University. They led early on in the game by as much as 10 points. Antoine Wilkerson led GWU with 16 points, and 12 rebounds. Corey Dillard added help inside, contributing 10 points and 7 rebounds. James Colwell also added 11 points and Dusty Mason put in 9. Wingate defeated the Dogs 80-66 and the men ended the season with a record of 11-16. Baseball looking for good season Takiya Patrick Pilot sports editor The Diamond Dogs are back and in full force. The Dogs took on Limestone Feb. 25 Gardner-Webb opened up a 2-0 lead in the second inning after an error by the Saints. Blake Leverett came in with a double and Eric Parks dove in with a RBI-single. Limestone came back to tie to game 2-2 in the third inning. But thanks to good pitching by junior relief pitcher Daniel Planck the Diamond Dogs were able to subdue the Saints . Planck took the mound in the fifth inning. He only allowed three hits over the next four innings. He is making a name for himself as one of the top pitchers in the SAC this season. The Dogs went on to defeat the Saints and will be in action again on March 6 against Catawba at noon. Lady Dogs split with Belmont Abbey Photo by Bob Carey The Running Bulldogs score with a jam. The season ended on a sour note as the Bulldogs lost to Wingate 80-66 in the first round of the SAC tournament. Baseball Schedule Takiya Patrick Pilot sports editor The Lady Dogs Softball team hit the diamond Feb. 23 in action against Belmont Abbey. In the first game Belmont Abbey defeated the Ladies 6-0. The Dogs defense had a season high 8 errors. The offense was equally off, with only four hits against the Crusaders’ pitcher. Sophomore Caley Parker pitched for the Dogs. Parker and Melissa Barrett led the Dogs offensively with 2 hits each. The next game had promise for the Dogs. Beverly Proffitt gave the spark they needed as she began a three-inning rally. With the Dogs trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Proffit doubled, then stole third base and finally scored on a passed ball to put the Dogs on the score board. Dani Risinger added a two- RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. Bekki Reuter and Tracy Mitchell both scored to tie the game 3-3. Profit scored again in the sixth inning bringing the score to 4-3, where it would remain. The Lady Bulldogs will be in action at home again on March 8 when they host the “Big Dog Tournament.” Softball Schedule Support the Bulldogs this Spring. Attend a Game.
