ew coaches hired Swimmer breaks records

Gardner-Webb's growth in the NCAA D-I athletic competitions
hequires the hiring of coaches that have previous experience at the col-
egiate level. This past summer the athletic staff announced several new
additions to the coaching staff at GWU.
Women's Soccer
Debbie Pacchioni is continuing her education in Gardner-Webb's
[graduate program along with coaching as an assistant for the women's
[soccer program. While playing collegiate soccer at National American
■University in Rapid City, S.D., Pacchioni, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil
captained the team to appearances in the 1998 and 1999 NAIA National
I Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs open the season against Army at the High Point
! Classic on August 30.
Men's Soccer
John Miglarese joined the men's soccer program to help the Runnin'
Bulldogs as they enter the 2003 season. Before joining the program as
an assistant coach Miglarese gained knowledge in soccer from Georgia
Southern as a coach from 2001-2002. Miglarese played at Georgia
Southern from 1996-1999.
The men's team makes their 2003 regular season debut at home
against Milligan on August 29.
Men's basketball
Chris Holtmann, a Nicholasville, Ky native, joined the men's bas
ketball program at GWl^fter his position as a top assistant at NAIA
member Taylor (Ind.) University. Holtmann earned earned All-
American honors at Taylor in 1994 as the team earned a spot as the
NAIA's top ranked team.
Holtmann's career in^^legiate coaching started in 1997-1998 as a
junior varsity coach alon^Bth helping out with the varsity squad.
Track & Field
David Price joined GWU’s track & field coaching staff as the top
assistant. Price previously coached at Western Carolina University from
1999 to the present. While at WCU, 40 student athletes earned all con
ference status. Prices' area of expertise is on the field events.
Head Cross-Country Coach Brian Baker took over the program as
Director of Track & Field and Cross-Country after Bryan Fetzer
resigned following the 2003 track & field season. Fetzer is currently pur
suing other career opportunities in the sport.
The men's and women's cross-country squad opens up the season at
the Charlotte Relays on August 30.

April Knowles is continuing
her season through late
August for the Bahamas
after placing well at the
Bahamian National Meet
this summer.
The rising sophomore
set national records in four
events at Nationals, which
were held from July 10-13 in
Nassau.
Knowles turned in new
record times of 1:07.89 in
the 100 fly, 1:19:53 in the
100 breast, 2:32.43 in the
200 fly and 2:55.64 in the
200 breast.
After scoring 50 points
at the meet Knowles tied for
the High Point Trophy. This
is the third time Knowles has
met the standard to receive
the trophy. Knowles earned
this title outright at the 1999
and 2001 Nationals.
Following phenomenal
performances at Nationals,
Knowles went on to compete
for the Bahamas at the Pan
American Games from Aug.
8-15 in the Dominican
Republic. Knowles also
earned a spot on the
Bahamian team that is com
peting at the World
Championships in South
Korea from Aug. 21-31.
The lady swimmers of
Gardner-Webb kick off the
season on October 24
against Davidson at home.
The first event is slated to
start at 7 p.m. Head Coach

to the 2003-2004 squad.
