Funding for Wing-Fling denied
Last Monday, the Senate denied funding for
Pi Sigma Epsilon’s “Wing-Fling,” citing univer
sity regulations that prohibit financial support for
events where alcohol is served. The event was
held last Saturday, and was sponsored in part by
Jackson Beverage Company of Wilmington.
According to Treasiffer Ryan B urton, the SGA
was prepared to approve $1280 with the stipula
tion that alcohol-related logos were not part of
the publicity materials. However, when it was de
termined that the publicity campaign for the event
had already been printed with a Budweiserlooo
the Senate denied funding and “killed" the requei
effectively ending any further fimding possibilln
for the event.
“Some faculty members had expressed tlu
the university does not sponsor (events) with bea
promotions or logos,” he said.
Dean of Students Terry Curran said Pi Sigmi
Epsilon is not allowed to use the university's nam |
in their promotional materials if a beer logo is [
associated with it.
'TTiey can sponsor the event as an oiganiza- i
tion. but once alcohol is associated with it. ths
cannot use the university naine." he said.
